Would you want your son to major in a liberal arts degree?

Had a discussion with my uncle today that many college liberal arts courses are now forcing social justice upon their students. I don’t remember this being the case 10 years ago. He said that becoming a plumber is a much wiser choice than wasting time on a useless degree like Global Studies at NYU.

Do you know the actual route to becoming a master plumber?

Unless you want to be a fricking plumber the rest of your life.
I wouldn't have a problem with it except I would tell him that grad. school is going to have to be in his future in all probability.

If you want to study Shakespeare or ancient Greek history you still can. Nobody's being forced to major in gender studies.

Plumbers aren’t doing too bad right now.

I have paid plumbers a small fortune.
There is nothing wrong with a broad liberal arts education: It make you more well rounded than training to be an accountant......but you are probably going to have to go to law school or get an MBA to be more marketable.

SJW stuff aside, the vast majority of fields that fall under liberal arts are useless and offer very little future growth potential.
So, no, Scruffy would not support that.

This board's fascination with blue collar jobs is odd

I wouldn’t have paid for one of my daughters to major in that either

Liberal Arts? Absolutely.

Im currently writing a paper for art and gender. It was one of the last open courses that i needed for my last humanities credit. Im not a liberal arts major but it is required hours from the school.
There are a lot of wasteful classes that are forced upon students that could be used to taught other things that are more important.
I havent minded this class this semester. It is a pain in the arse with the requirements for a summer class, but still interesting. This last assignment is about psychoanalysis, fetishism, and feminism. I guess I feel more exposed? You could say. I dont see how this will help me earn more money though

I have a BA. Could do whatever it is that I please. The world is enriched by my presence.

Financially? Maybe - and that is assuming the kid doesn't go on to get a law degree, MBA, etc.
Blue collar work is paid well because it fricking sucks. No one is happy to go wade in shite or turn wrenches for 40 years in the heat
