Why does TAM have such a huge endowment and is it possible for LSU to close the colossal gap between the 2. Excuse my ignorance on this subject

Oil money in Texas. Next question.

Because they have a way bigger number of alumni, bigger student body and it’s texas so naturally they’ll always have more resources.

If one of our alums strikes gold or oil, sure.

Because Texas alone produces more oil than Iraq is one reason baw.

All the oil rigs off Louisiana coastline. What is that. We should be higher

Louisiana people with money don’t give enough shits to take care of the school. It’s sports first. Also, a good portion of the big money boosters probably didn’t even go to LSU therefore their money only goes to TAF.

No. If the numbers I looked at recently are accurate TAMU is just under 10 BILLION and LSU is just under 900 MILLION.

In addition to the oil money comments which certainly have some merit, don’t overlook that A&M instills an overwhelming sense of commitment into its grads. They are told it’s expected that they will contribute and it’s drilled into them. I don’t have hard data, but strongly suspect their participation rate is MUCH higher the ours.

Federal waters is where most of the oil and gas is produced. Great Senators like Russell Long, John Breaux, J Bennett Johnston and a certain Governor named Edwards should receive most of the blame. There was a point about 20 years ago when everyone could see production really shifting to deeper waters (Federal land). La. had the leverage at one point to strike a "fair" deal. Now, with the federal govt receiving so much tax money off Deepwater production getting 98 other senators to vote for the good of ole Louisiana and to their own demise is a pipe dream.

Those are assets owned by Texas companies (in most cases).

For one the alumni doesn't do half the job the TAF does at attempting to raise money. My wife is a Texas grad and they have students that call every quarter asking for a donation to the university. LSU has never called or solicited for contributions outside of TAF. But like others have said, there are some huge oil reserves that go directly to the Endowments for aTm and even more so to Texas. There are more people in the Houston area than the entire state of Louisiana, just a bigger alumni and contribution base.
But LSU should do a better job at managing their finances.

Agreed -- LSU grads pretty much suck at giving back to the academic side. Its better today than 20 years ago. My dad is a proud Aggie. Most of his Aggie buddies give to A&M annually -- they never think in terms of not giving. A&M does a great job of instilling a sense of pride in their alums and part of that is those alums give back overwhelmingly. Some of their methods are really goofy and I'm not advocating LSU do the damn boot slide but the Huey Long culture still lives in many levels of La.'s culture -- free shite mindset is still pretty pervasive

Not just LSU, that’s Louisiana in a damn nutshell.

Land owners in Texas. In LA, oil is offshore.

Texas is the third largest producer of oil in the world. But, so far that money at A&M hasn't produced a winner.

Very true. But I think TAF discourages the university from reaching out to donors to some extent. They realize the pockets are only so deep and they don't want money taken away from athletics. I know they give a portion to the university each year, but its a small percentage. I donate albeit not a huge amount each year mostly to TAF. I will say if we don't do something about the alleva situation at the end of the year my donation will go next year to the University versus TAF in its entirety minus what I am obligated to do for tickets.

Not just oil money, but the State, unless I'm mistaken, puts a ton of money into the endowments of both A&M and Texas, which is why they're both huge.

I'm an LSU alumnus, and UTexas alumnus. I do get calls from both, but the calls from LSU are a recent trend. And they are definitely not as consistent as UT has been for years.
