A way to annoy panhandlers and possibly be entertained

I have started carrying a single shiny quarter in my pocket. When a panhandler asks for money, I show them the quarter and say it's all I have. If they still show interest, I tell them they have to work for the quarter, roll the quarter on the pavement away from me, and tell the panhandler it's all theirs. If they say any shite, I yell they don't appreciate someone trying to help them. Most just look incredulous. I'm thinking about switching to a doubloon during Mardi Gras next year.

Not at all. I support charities that work with the poor and homeless. I will give money to someone who looks truly down on his luck and may be off to the side with a sign but not really bothering anyone. But I'm not supporting bums who can work or addicts.

OP has never actually done this.
When I worked at a pawn shop. We would super glue a quarter to the ground and watch the ensuing spectacle.

I can’t imagine a situation where I would expend the effort to beg for money when I could use that same effort to earn money.
