Wtf? How can someone think that there is no mental illness there?

Obviously there is a mental illness. That is not even debateable. To make tax payers pay for it is a different story. If I want pretend delts or calves or whatever then I should be expected to pay for it. If Mr. Bruce wants his dick cut off then I am not sure why society should pay for that procedure or the rehab costs.

This is my thought on it. No one just wakes up and says "I want to be a man" or "I want to be a woman". To go to the degree a transgender person does, it has to be more about how they feel and who they are.

Since it is something we can't really see, it is hard for us to understand, but if someone develops as one sex physically and another sex mentally. Is that really mental illness?

How is it that people who are transgender(or any other gender besides being born male or female) not considered to have a mental illness?

Great, so every guy that says he wants to wear a dress can get a "crazy check"?

I think they wanted to not give people easy access to mental benefits. See what happened with emotional support animals vs seeing eye dogs? Same thing, "mental illness" vs "mental" Illness.

And the fact that many (but definitely not all) exhibit far more severe psychological issues is not proof in itself .

For this discussion I consider the "why" irrelevant as the outcome is one of mental perception. Even if it's genetic the effect is still a dangerously skewed mental view of self no different than something like Anorexia nervosa. The only reason people treat this differently is because it also involves the genitals.

According to the DSM-V it is a mental illness.
