There ain’t shite to do there.
the fact that Ruston has a (decent) brewery downtown, should solidify this with ease

If Lincoln parish wasn’t so old school on their drinking laws and would let the college kids have a little fun, Tech would have a lot more students hands down. I know of people from down south who go there and end up leaving bc it’s too tame and outside of school there’s not a lot of nightlife.

If you’re trying to argue that Lafayette is the best true college town in the state, I’m confused.
There is nothing wrong with Lafayette. But it’s not a ”college town”.

I have been to Lafayette a bunch and not one time did it have anything to do with/for/associated with the university or college stuff in general.

Not saying it’s the best but I’m also not saying it should be below Monroe or Thibodaux.. it qualifies as more of a college town than BR nola or Shreveport that’s why I listed it. They don’t NEED ULL to survive but it certainly helps them as a town.

The same could be said with every town in the state though. People go to Natchitoches and Ruston all the time for non college things

Hammond
Thbodeaux
Ruston
Without the universities in these towns they would be just another Houma
Without LSU in Baton Rouge, BR would just be another Alexandria

Hammond, plenty of trashy bars for students of all ages. Nothing to really do outside of drink, go to the movies or play in the fields. A lot of decent food options, plenty of hanging out with students during the school year, basically empty during the summer.

My point is that Lafayette doesn't NEED the university as you described it. There is still a city/town without the school and that would not change if the college closed it's doors tomorrow. It's not LA but when I think of a town that NEEDS the university I think of Starkvegas NEEDING Moo U other the city would not exist.

College towns aren’t really know for having stuff to do

If you’re going to BR for most game days, Lafayette or Hammond is the place you want to be.
at the idea that Baton Rouge isn’t a “college town”, while posters are using distance from LSU football as a metric.
LSU is the fourth largest employer in Baton Rouge behind the state, EBR parish schools, and Turner Industries. One out of every six people in (incorporated) BR are either students or employees at LSU. It’s a college town.

I don’t think you’re very familiar with Lafayette. The college has an enrollment of like 19K these days and employs many people. If they closed, the town would be different.. maybe it wouldn’t disappear off the map but it certainly would be a different town.

You could say that about a lot of the other towns/cities you mentioned. Hell if LSU wasn't there as a buffer between N and S BR, BR would be WAYYYY different than as it exists now.

I agree. Maybe the question is more like “which town with a college is the best besides Baton Rouge”

Baton Rouge obviously don’t count it’s too big.
Literally in the OP

Without LSU Alexandria would actually be nicer than BR.

I consider Tulane/The Boot a college town, so I'd vote for that.

You obviously haven't been to Alexandria in a while. I live there and it's kind of a shithole
