Beginner (again) runner here.

I'm currently on week 2 of c25k. M,w,f. I'm also jogging/walking 1 mile on Tues , Thurs. I know I'm supposed to take off days, but I enjoy running so much. Truthfully, it's the only excersise I do or even want to do.

Years ago I completed the c25k and then was running 3 miles, m,w,f and 4 miles, Tues and Thurs. Everything was good for a while, then I pulled something in my back in the middle of my run. It was extremely painful and I could barely walk straight for weeks. Anyway, I had a lot of stress going on in my work and personal life at the same time and as a result I just quit running.

My question is: is anyone here successful or could recommend running 5 days a week, preferably m-f? Was I doing too much at 3-4 miles a day? Should I work my endurance up more? I've never ran a 10k and my longest run was probably 5 miles, even though I was doing 4 miles twice a week.

I have bulging disks in my back. It's a problem that doesn't go away, but is manageable with physical therapy and proper exercise. Have you had it looked at to determine the cause?

Five straight days is doable, but spacing out your non-run days might be more beneficial to avoid injury. If Saturday and Sunday are absolutely no-go's, then maybe consider four run days and one cross-training day. Usually for me I do some active yoga or an active workout video, somewhere between 45-60 minutes.

You could try to start out with something like 3 miles Monday, 4 Miles Tuesday, cross train Wednesday, 4 Miles Thursday, and 3 miles Friday. Make Thursday your long run day. Then, gradually increase your mileage on all of your days to meet your mileage goals, and use the shorter run days to work on pace.

Am I doing it right? This is the feeling I get from all of the running plans I have used in the past couple of years.

I assume this equated to roughly 25-35 minutes worth of running a day. I am by no means a coach or trainer, but I would say that would be the ideal amount of time a beginner runner's workout should last. If time isn't a restriction, I would try to extend one of those workouts slightly longer, while reducing mileage and increasing speed on another.

You'll find that activities such as running often play an important role in getting through such periods. Try to keep running next time your life gets stressful. You'll probably come out better for it.
