Im trying to keep myself at a max of 65 miles of endurance racing a year (half marathon or longer). I feel like if i get to where im doing too many of them im going to grow to hate it which i dont want.

i am probably one and done on marathons. I just don't know when ill have time for that much training until my toddler and unborn child are grown up.
i am happy to get 20 or so miles a week in right now. So just focused on making my 5k time faster and maybe run a half or two every year
I am not going to let myself forget how miserable i was for the last 8 miles

Same here. Maybe a little more mileage, but same plan. My goal is to increase my VO2. If I get faster in the process, then that's a bonus.

I get this, my strongest distance so far has been the 5k and the half marathon. The Marathon is just kinda it's own beast, by training for a Marathon my Half Marathon actually ends up GREATLY improving and my Marathon seems to... slightly improve. It's a very very VERY long game type training plan.
Also on a different account, 100 miler training is going to be different than all of it, I have to figure out how to move at a reasonable pace while keeping my heart rate below 140 basically all the time and staying on my feet for the majority of 24-32 hours which is insane. I really don't know what kinda training this will inherently help more than the 100 miler, but I'm sure it will.
The Marathon is really not for everyone, I honestly don't even know if it's for me, but I'm going to continue to run them because I'm a masochist

Watching their course flyover was SOOO amazing, that looks like one of the most ideal Marathons EVER, I'm going to keep my eyes pealed after June for when registration opens up, cause that is 100% the Marathon I want to run next year

That's where I'm at. I've gotten 18 miles in 3 of the last 4 days. I don't really have the time since my child takes up all of our afternoons. The wife (no pics) and I will give each other a day in the week to workout. I can always use the jogging stroller, but that thing is miserable for both me and my child. At some point they'll be able to do more like go to one of our gyms in the child play area while we workout, so I'm looking forward to that.
Right now I know I can get a Wednesday afternoon run and a Thursday super early run which is a nice back to back period to knock out. I get home around 7am on Thursdays and have breakfast ready and the baby dressed up. At the end of the day, it's about finding a way to make time. I can easily run at 5 or 6am everyday, but I like watching late night TV/playing video games too much.

why target on keeping heart rate under 140 for entire race?
staying on your feet and moving becomes a mental game especially if you think you'll be out there up to 32hrs. Tunnel Hill is notoriously fast course but don't out run yourself early. Learn how to walk with purpose. walking 4mph vs 3 mph for even 20 miles saves almost 2hrs. its very easy to get lulled into a casual walk once the miles stack up and you're tired. Another easy trap to waste hours is aid stations. Don't get lax at aid stations or with crew. Get what you need and keep walking while eating. Onsite of nightfall can really take you down. Your body just isn't use to functioning all day and then into the dark. Suggest doing night runs during training and if possible make one 20+ miles. Have a normal friday workday and then head out for long run starting 9-10pm with no nap.
Can't say there's any science behind it but successfully training for 100 miler makes marathon distance seem easy. Ran my first 100 miler (20hr) before my first marathon (2:57).

I've just heard a lot from friends that have done 100 milers to keep your HR as far away from your Lactic Threshold as you can (140 would be a true zone 2 in that regards)

Yeah my (hidden) goal is going to be a sub-24 hour finish... But I also plan to walk fast for the first few miles and let the "hype train" run off without me so I can do my own thing. (After that I'm thinking about keeping it close to 6mph for the first 60 miles)

I had already planned to do a 26 miler at night during the Fall
Luckily I already have a trail within 5 miles of my house that is almost exactly like tunnel hill - I will be doing my 50 mile tune-up on that trail as well.

4.5 miles with hill sprint intervals. Broke these up into fartleks based off spots I picked in the distance. This is more fun than timed intervals.
Then wings and beer at the local pizza place. Felt great. Start the Grasshopper PPSA next week. Looking forward to getting swole.

Seems like you have some good planning down already. Have a plan for the plan for when stuff goes bad. 95% of the time something is gonna go bad, it may not stay bad but have a plan for when it does. This is where crew is very helpful if you have that available.
I'll suggest that planning for a 10hr first 60 miles is probably over estimating your pace. many have said that general concept is the first 50 miles take X hrs and the second 50 take 1.3X. this rational puts you sub 20hr. Its highly doable but something to think about once your further along in training.
remember end goal is finish no matter the time unless you have actual injury. I say actual injury because its gonna hurt, you're gonna be tired and feel like shite at some point but quitting hurts more. I've only DNF'd once. Superior 100, was at mile 70 aid station in 22ish hours with 38hr overall cutoff but I mentally gave in. No crew and didn't have backup plan to get past mental funk at that moment. I still regret that decision.

Rinse. Repeat. Little warmer today and route had way more hills. Not sure why I even bother with the run group anymore. They all pace way faster and once they take off, I never see them again.

You know outside of the 5 days of hell I’m surprised how fast my bodies bounced back. I haven’t really tried to run but I was jogging around while playing disc golf yesterday and felt pretty close to normal. Was planning on two weeks down but may start mixing in some light runs next week.

Speed session this morning. 2 sets of 3x500m followed by a 4x100m set to finish it off. With summer weather here to stay, been cutting those interval lengths down.

I have not run in 10 days... I actually brought my running clothes to work today and when the time came for me that I would need to leave... I got lunch and sat at my desk.
Physically I'm probably 99%, mentally at best I'm 60%. Seeing a dude die in front of you is a massive mental experience. Hopefully I can get back at it again soon
