Building a house: what are some things you don’t like about yours/things to avoid

I really don’t like how your mother’s bathroom is off-suite.

Master suite doesn’t need to be huge, would rather have bigger bedrooms/playroom.

ETA not that ours are connected, but I’d give up room in the master suite for a larger laundry room

I'm the complete opposite, I could not fathom living in a house that's a bunch of cubicles with a roof.

You don’t need a Pot filler in the wall. They bust and not worth the risk. Fill the damn pot in the sink like normal people.

If you have a wood burning fireplace have outside access to clean out the ashes.
Sink in the garage
You can never have too many electrical outlets and water faucets outside.
Sprinkler system

The wasted space in the master bath drives me insane. Probably 100 sq ft that can’t be used for anything.

The spray foam insulation was the best money I spent. Has made up for the extra cost within 3 years due to lower utility bills.

Don’t skimp on windows and doors. Buy the absolute best you can afford.

Under cabinet lighting and scone lights on the walls get used a lot

Outlets in the soffit outside has proven to be very convenient for Christmas and Halloween decorations

Go ahead and build that outdoor kitchen when you build the house so you don’t have to worry about it later. We probably spend 10 hours a week out there

The sex dungeon won’t get as much use as you think it will

If you’re in south Louisiana, who did you use for an independent inspection?

Love our hurricane resistant doors and windows. Wish I had a garage with a storage room. Really nothing that I would take away. We LOVE the ceramic grey driftwood tile throughout the entire house, so easy to keep clean.
