At this current point in time gonintento reports.

Currently sitting at 16 GIGs but additions and bug fixes are still in the works most likely due to the invitational.

That’s a big fricking game. To give context. BotW and Wolfenstein are Nintendo’s largest 1st and 3rd party titles sitting at 14.3 GB and 21.7 (pre-install patch). Don’t know what Sakurai has cooking at Sora but that’s a beefy title he has going.

Mario Odyssey is 5 GB roughly and Warriors collectathons usually sit at about 10-11 due to the sheer amount of replay shite you gotta do. Xenoblade is 13.1 before DLC.

Really no other game that’s come out has come close to those as far as file size so it’s pretty huge for a fighting/party-ish game regardless of the crowd it appeals to. I’m sure the MKs and SFVs of the world dwarf it but at this current point it would be the 3rd largest game in the eshop behind Wolf’s Rock and Doom.

16 gigs is nothing really. there were plenty of games out 10 years ago that used that much space

The Super Smash Bros. For Wii U Download Size Is 15.6 GB

You think 16gb is a big file size for a game?

Well typically because many coders are just plain bad. It's often due to coder laziness, FMV, and bad compression formats that keep games that big.

I would have thought the point the OP is trying to make is that 16gb is pretty big given the paltry storage capacity of the Switch.

I'm sure I would download a game digitally if it were cheap enough, but all my full price switch games are physical. The only one I have thus far that actually requires an additional download to system storage is Revelations Collection because RE Revelations 2 isn't actually on the card.

Not it’s hilariously tiny. There are several games I have on PC that push 70-80 GB. But given the context, it’s pretty ridiculous since it’s pretty much a giant party game in nutshell.

One thing I’ve noticed about their titles that’s odd is some of their bigger games should be really much larger in GB than usual. Idk if it’s because of optimization or native hardware or just the styles and coding together. Would like some elaboration on that for people in the know.

People in there thinking OP is acting like 16GB is big without realizing OP is trying to infer the amount content in the game by comparing it to the file size of a known game with vast content...

Y'all some dumb motherfrickers.

Smash has always been one of the biggest games on the system. It was one of the only dual layer DVD games on Wii, which made it top 5 in file size there. It's more of an expectation than a surprise.

Smash and BotW is a terrible comparison though. BotW may be a expansive open world game, but a large open world with tons of stuff to do doesn't mean it's a large install size. The textures are fairly low quality and similar to many open world games, the textures are reused frequently. Just go look at Skyrim on the 360, it was less than 5GB. Smash is the opposite because each stage has unique assets and, I would also expect higher quality character models & textures and substantially more audio data compared to BotW. File size is only an indicator of content for audio/video/graphical things, not the gameplay.

This thread got me thinking. On Steam, Red Faction Guerrilla is around 8gb. The remastered version is 40gb yet it looks like almost the exact same game.

We’ll see. We don’t know how many pre-rendered cutscenes may be in a possible small story mode like the emissary. Pre-renders eat up much more space to my knowledge than game engine rendered cutscenes that can even compensate on the occasion for certain aesthetic changes on characters etc.

It could be 14 GBs and have a GB or 2 worth of pre-renders.

We’ll see.

What? All I'm saying is file size of a game, in modern program, has no bearing on actual content in the game. It's a mix of coder laziness, pure media, and uncrompessed files.

To whit, the Smash Bros. Wii U file size was 15.7 GB - LINK

No offense, but 16 GB means, like, nothing to what's actually in the game and has no bearing on the BoTW comparison - these are two different enginges with two different ways to handle literally everything.

I'm not talking about you. I think we're in agreement. I'm talking about all the other people in here saying shite like "16GB is tiny there were games 10 years ago that were that big." That wasn't the point OP was trying to make. He was trying to compare file sizes with other switch games to infer the amount of content in Smash, which you have pointed out might not be accurate due to engine differences. I'm just saying most people in here failed to grasp the comparison OP was trying to make and instead jumped to "lol 16GB is tiny"

And then you have the typical trolls saying no one cares about Switch games, but of course they're in the thread about a Switch game letting everyone know about it.

Laughable, as long as you have decent broadband to download quickly. Storage space isn’t much of an issue these days. Having said that, Blops3 was pushing 110GB on steam after all DLC’s had been released. After adding the map editor to play custom zombie maps, it was pushing 200GB.
