In reality, neither did Maravich. My family owned a restaurant in Covington, La back in the late '80s. He told me so.

Absolutely not. He should not be honored by LSU.

Why the hell not?

In his LSU days, he was just Chris Jackson raining 3's on our opponents.

Dude set a freshman record at the time by averaging 30+ ppg. Hell, that may still stand.

Comparing Billy Cannon to Chris Jackson? Ok, I'll play...

when did Jackson win a natty?
When did he win an Adolph Rupp?

Bonus round:
Which is shittier, your idea of retiring his jersey or the thread you started with it?

You're only helping CJ's case here, though certainly not your intent...

Keep in mind CJ's 'transgressions' occurred after leaving LSU and didn't embarrass the entire LSU community like a home-grown hero going rogue.

Because he does not represent the values of LSU. Making shots is only a small part of it. Character is much more important.

Get your head out of your arse for just a moment.

What about him tells you he has no character?

Gotta love LSU fans. Since he played for LSU it’s ok if he is a kneeler.

I have absolutely no problem with non violent protest not clearly done for attention and personal gain. Jackson (Raouf) made a non verbal statement for what he believed in and lost a lot because of it. He had done it for a while before anyone even noticed or made a fuss about it. He was asked about it and gave a candid response. I don’t have to agree with his message or his world view to respect him. But I’m sure a lot of the same people shitting on him will forgive a violent criminal “Christian” but not a non violent Muslim who said stuff that made them uncomfortable or mad.

He didn't do it at LSU. That's the crux of the argument.
