Child's Play is getting a remake

Chucky is ready to play again.
MGM is remaking Child’s Play, the 1980s horror movie centering on a toy doll possessed by the soul of a serial killer, with It producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith.
MGM is fast-tracking the project, which has Lars Klevberg, the Norwegian filmmaker behind the horror movie Polaroid, in the director’s chair as it heads toward a production start in Vancouver this September.
Tyler Burton Smith — who has written video games and wrote Kung Fury 2, now in production — penned the script.
Directed by '80s and '90s horror mainstay Tom Holland and co-created by Don Mancini, Child's Play told the story of a popular toy doll named Chucky that becomes possessed and terrorizes a single mom and her son, as the killer needs the son’s body to jump into before his transference to the doll becomes permanent

1. Why do we need this?
2. Why do we need this?
Sigh...
Other than that, if anyone but Brad Dourif voices Chucky, I'm not interested.

surprised they are doing this since they have all those direct to DVD Child's Play movies they have been doing

The IT remake works because 1. There’s only 1 version to compare it to and 2. The magical realism works within the frame of being an interesting, creepy story. Thematically, IT is about childhood trauma and growing up. Thematically, Chucky is about... not buying dolls as big as your kid
It’s fun 80s schlock horror and needs to stay that way

I would go see it if Tracey Morgan voiced Chucky.

As absurd as the story was, Child's Play 1 is actually a decent movie. It was "in on the joke", yet still managed moments of actual horror. The build to Chucky coming alive was well paced in that it took it's time, and Chucky only revealed himself as sentient when he absolutely had no choice (being threatened with immolation in a fireplace).
"I'll teach you to frick with me, you filthy slut" is a wonderful line coming out of a ginger doll in overalls.

Only if he does it as this SNL character

My thoughts exactly.

maybe we should start a list of horror movies that HAVEN'T been remade. I bet it's shorter than the list that has.

Well duh.
This board would be less cluttered if we only started threads for movies that weren't getting remakes/prequels/sequels/reboots.

To put some perspective on how times have changed and how terrible my parents would be viewed today, I'm pretty sure I saw Child's Play 3 in theaters. I was 6 years old when it came out. I had already seen the previous two movies.
I had two older brothers, working parents, and HBO. I saw too much real shite

Not to mention IT’s previous incarnation was a made for TV movie, not a cinematic release. That and the layered content of the story and fleshed our characters leads it to make sense for there to be a remake, and they’ve knocked it out the park so far.
Chunky is an 80s/90s slasher series that is far outdated. I’d be surprised if this ended up being worth a damn, seems like none of those type remakes do very well

Went to rent movies on VHS and came across the original. I don't usually watch horror movies, but one thing sold me.
The box had: Roger Ebert says: "Chucky is one mean SOB."
I cracked up laughing in the store and just had to rent it.

They should just do a version with an American Doll Girl instead of the chucky. That would scare the shite out of all the parents who forked over $100s of dollars to have look a like dolls for their kids.
There is a PG RL Stine movie like this on netflix and it made my little girl never want to get one

They did that before.
ETA: well it’s not an American girl doll, it takes place in Mexico.

When she threatens to throw Chucky into the fire...
AHHH YOU WHORE YOU SLUT YOU BITCH
Friend and I still get a laugh out of using that line every once in a while.
