First time in 44 years that the US Army has made such a major change to the One Station Unit Training method for training infantry Soldiers.
Basic Training and Infantry AIT extended from 14 weeks to 22 weeks, starting THIS month.
The Fort Polk Guardian article is on page 4

Lead article is about a 10th Mtn Div NCO who lost both of his legs in combat during the deployment overseas. The unit recently returned to Ft Polk.

Must be taking all the girls a little bit longer to get through.

I'm in now. The length of 14 weeks kept me from signing up before, now they are getting to where I feel more comfortable.

BCT is changing across the board by August cycles. Sick Call and CBHS appointments are going to be through the roof.

The military and all their damn acronyms. Doesn't it get exhausting?

Back in the day. When it was hard.

Should extend initial training for all combat arms MOSs.
The idea of just giving basic knowledge then picking up the finer points at the unit was flawed from inception.

I went through OSUT at Ft Benning, GA's Sand Hill, Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion/54th Infantry Brigade. I arrived at Fort Benning on Aug 18, started Basic Training on Aug 27, finished basic on Oct 30, started AIT on Nov 1, graduated AIT on Dec 3rd.
It was long enough. Closest experinence to prison I'll ever have (hopefully).
I feel sorry for those who have to endure 22 weeks.

I was at Ft. McClellan for 19 straight weeks in the same bay with the same Drill Sergeants.
14 weeks would’ve been a blessing.

Good for us all since so many military guys become cops. More real training for police.
