He is doing what any coach should be doing this time of year...controlling fan expectations. All you have to do is read through this thread to see how quickly fans conjure up unrealistic expectations for their team.

Perhaps but I reject the premise that Miami football can hang with LSU. Big 10 teams teams give us the most trouble outside the SEC, at least in recent history. Our recent history versus the ACC seems to be pretty good other than when we Clemsoned against Clemson.

It's the truth though. If Ensminger is truly to be believed, we'll be running a spread offense with RPOs, way less runs and plays from traditional sets, and more balance between run and pass.
LSU lost their top 3 pass catchers and top 3 rushers. We also lost the only QB with any kind of real experience on our roster. The RBs we have, not including true freshman Curry, are not like the typical backs we usually have. Outside of what Giles did at Tech, what can he learn about our WRs? In 2 years, Dillon has 14 catches, Sullivan has 11 catches, Anderson has 7 catches, and Davis has 4 catches. I guess focus on Giles as a whole, focus on Dillon in the slot and focus on the other 3 as deep threats.
The last part is that the QBs are so widely different in play styles. If more than one does play or if for some ridiculous reason Burrow doesn't start, how do you gameplan for four different guys? Ed will wait as long as he can before he announces the starting QB.
