I don't think MSU upgraded. I think Moorehead will be okay, but I think Mullen is much better.

We'll see. He's going to get one of the best recruiting classes MSU has had in years. Ole Miss being on probation helps, but he will likely get Emery too in what has been an almost perfect storm for MSU.

Now, what he does with that talent remains to be seen, but MSU is going to be set up for a solid run for the next few years at least.

Our Offensive line isn’t completely overhauled. In fact we have two experienced freshmen who played all last year. We should have some depth and experience.
Our Qb should be an upgrade.
We lost Chark and Gage but we gain Giles and Gage isn’t exactly a big loss that can’t be easliy replaced with the talent we have.
The only question should be RB and OC play calling will be different, but improved. (If Orgeron just meddle in it)

Questions, yes, but to insist it’s a complete overhaul is a stretch.

The expectations should not be lowered.

So basically what you just said:

New QB
New receivers
New RBs
Slightly better OL
New OC
New Scheme

I would say that's a damn near complete overhaul. The "New OC" and "New Scheme" qualifies as overhaul for me.

Orgeron's going to beat at least 5 of those on the list ahead of him this season.

So he'll lose to the other 4 we play? Sounds about right.

8-4 Baws!

I’m saying new, but upgrades, not new and inexperienced.

Giles is an upgrade IMO
Davis or Sullivan are not new and are very capable of being better than gage.

Burrow/Brennan will be an upgrade to Etling in SE’s more pass heavy scheme.

The scheme isn’t complicated or anything these guys won’t be able to run smoothly.

The Oline will be more experienced

It’s not a complete overhaul as you’re suggesting. Nothing close to admitting we should lower the expectations.

It was the same thing last season with Canada. Did we lower the expectations in 2017?

It was actually the opposite. How many times did we hear about "Air Canada" and a veteran heavy offense including a senior QB and a first round talent at RB?

We still significantly lack experience:

Note: The number in parentheses is the ranking among all FBS teams.
1.Florida (9)
2.Alabama (13)
3.Ole Miss (15)
4.Vanderbilt (25)
5.Missouri (29)
6.Texas A&M (30)
7.Arkansas (51)
8.Mississippi State (52)
9.South Carolina (62)
10.Georgia (64)
11.Kentucky (80)
12.Tennessee (95)
13.Auburn (114)
14.LSU (119)

However:
quote:

The Bengal Tigers must replace K.J. Malone, Will Clapp and Toby Weathersby, the last two lost to the NFL. That is serious attrition, but for at least once, Ed Orgeron deserves some credit. Coach O has brought in two JUCO players, Badara Traore and Damien Lewis. Both could start but Traore could be good quickly. He was the top-rated JUCO offensive lineman last season.

LSU is also fortunate that now senior, Garret Brumfield did not leave for the NFL. Brumfield is a powerful run blocker. Two freshmen that struggled last season, Ed Ingram and Saahdiq Charles are no longer inexperienced. The Bengal Tigers have the pieces to be above average IF new projected, starting center Lloyd Cushenberry can step up his game.

The article does state that lack of experience should not be confused with lack of talent and we do have talent. I think Lewis is a stud. I was disappointed with Traore's struggles in the spring game. Either he or Deculus needs to step up in a hurry.

I understand what you’re saying. But the expectations weren’t lowered because he was a new OC and it was a new scheme, so why would the expectations be lowered for the same situation, regarding the OC and play calling?

It's a complete overhaul and I'm suggesting it.

Dude, last year, just adding Canada, everyone said it's an overhaul. And rightly so. However, last year, we had almost the exact same talent on offense as we did the year before.

This year is worse. New QB, new receivers, new scheme, new RBs, new OC, new OL coach, new WR coach...

It's a completely different offense. Hopefully they can surprise us, but expectations shouldn't be what they were last year. Especially with our much tougher schedule this year.

I was trying to include the JUCO guys and TFR in my reply without being specific.

Nice post.

Not what I meant at all. The expectations were actually raised.

Well facts are facts. They become excuses or agendas based on how one uses them. I think all of us are guilty of that to an extent.

Agree. And they should be the same or even raised with SE’s approach of a more pass happy scheme and the pressure on the staff to improve from last year.
No reason to lower them.

Well then you, sir, are an example of what's wrong with our fanbase. Unrealistic expectations.

Expectations should correlate with the current state of the program. Not just raised each year because you feel like it.

I've heard a lot of BS on this site, but this takes the cake. GoodOleLess in the top ten is like saying Obummer was a top ten president. A lot of things you could call GOL , but top 10 coach isn't one of them.

I disagree with some of your sentiments, but you present them in a logical and unbiased way which gives me pause.

You're having discussions, not arguments. Its refreshing so keep it up.
