That’s terrible and you can go in completely prepared and still be killed. It’s a risk going into the backcountry.

I posted a link a week or so ago with ago of the guy telling the story about surviving his bear attach. It’s bone chilling

This was the suburbs. I mean, it's wilderness all around it bet it's fairly well populated

Police killed two garbage bears in that erea yesterday.

The upper valley is where the State Park is located and I'd definitely be armed up there

That’s tough. Roger, what do you carry on hikes, etc?

Depends. On some of the islands I carry spray and either a .338 or a S&W50. Around town I usually only carry spray

Just a bigger variety. Usually Coastal and salmon beefs them up

However we have a subspecies of bear in SE Ak called the ABC bear (named after the three islands they inhabit) that also have polar bear DNA in them, and they are huge.

Yeah that older rough chick on the alaska show life below zero that lives about as far north as you can get is always packing even when working the bobcat on her runway. She was attacked through the permanent shelter once and she has guns laying everywhere.

Kinda funny I joke about hating cottonmouths yet they have literal maneaters lurking behind garbage cans

Yeah they get brown bears and polar bears there. I'd be packing too

I understand what you’re saying Roger, but you live in Alaska. Idk if I’d fell comfortable anywhere in the state without a gun.

Damn. I fished in that area once. It's amazing how close the bears are to the Anchorage Area. I'm glad I never encountered one.

I never saw a bear in Palmer but the moose up there are meaner than Bears.

I really miss the Hatchers Pass area, particularly in fall

My brother lived in Eagle River for a couple of decades. They have paved trails running all through the town. They used to see bears on the trails pretty often. In the winter, the moose come into town looking for food. I've seen a moose, with her baby in my brother's back yard.

They've had several moose attacks in Eagle River the last few years.

Hatcher Pass is awesome. I got to see a great Northern Lights display one night there years ago in winter. It was a humbling experience and one I'll never forget.
