All of the AMC chains here for the most part show the same mainstream stuff.
For true movie lovers MoviePass is what you want, but AMC offers a well-thought-out alternative for the majority of movie-goers who are mostly interested in mainstream movies.

Welp I don’t give a shite about the 3D/IMAX experience so I’ll continue to use my MoviePass. The ability to reserve is clutch from the comfort of your own home with that option from AMC but I’m walking distance to one movie theatre and a six-seven minute drive to the other so I could just as easily swing by there and buy my ticket early on.

AMCs out here are trash. I’ll keep my movie pass and go to the Perkin Rowe
It will be nice in case MP goes out of business or decides to price hike

I'm in the "Plan B" crowd. If MP goes belly up, then this is likely acceptable. The irony is that AMC will never know how successful this program is until/if MP croaks. If MP goes bankrupt, then AMC will have MP to thank for it.

My point was there aren't 30 movies out right now to see

This is really cool and hopefully sustainable. Even with MoviePass, I just don't have the time to see more than 12 movies in a month, so it's not like I'd be missing out on anything with this plan. The bonuses of IMAX are really appealing. If Regal wasn't so rampant here, I'd be all over this.

AMC’s program offers some features that MoviePass has not matched. Namely, customers can see movies in premium formats such as IMAX, Dolby Cinema, and RealD.
That’s a big plus. Dolby is awesome

Dolby is the only draw for us out of all of the upper-tier formats.

Well, we can definitely assume you don't know anything about physics.

If Cinemark can rise their subscription program to match this I’m sold.
Yeah Cinemark's Movie Club is a joke.
Price: $8.99 per month for one stinking movie and 20% off of concessions?
That's more than a Matinee. It only saves you a nominal amount if you go to a night show and have a family of 15 people.
Posted on 6/20/18 at 6:54 pm to mizzoubuckeyeiowa
It’s literally just a single prepaid ticket a month (that can roll over and be shared at least) and a couple of bucks of concessions. Doesn’t apply to any XD or 3D features.
It’s SOMETHING of you are going anyway, but not something that will drive traffic.

I don’t understand why people are so upset they can’t see a movie multiple times?

The theaters see MoviePass as devaluing their product. They'e selling tickets for $10 to $15 and MoviePass lets you see their films for as low as $.32 (if you saw a movie every day for their monthly $9.95). It's an image thing for them.
I see, that makes sense I guess. They'd still be making more money, but the other guy who said that they would be getting AMC-only customers makes a good point as well.

Wouldn’t say I’m upset but it was a nice feature. Couple of movies I’d be itching to see so I’d go see it myself then a buddy would hit me up about going to see it a few weeks later and I’d go again.

That makes sense - I suppose it was nice to have the option, just in case.

It's not like you can't rack up free tickets through Stubs or Regal Crown Club rewards and see Infinity War again if you absolutely HAVE to see it again.
Posted on 6/20/18 at 8:57 pm to VinegarStrokes
Making them an AMC only customer and I’m sure the theatres could see a day if moviepass got big enough, they’d come back and negotiate getting a % of the sales.
Knowing AMC, they’ll just bleed moviepass out, then jack up the price on this plan and make it not worth it.

Seriously. Seems like every other week I have another $5 in rewards on my Stubs Premiere Card.

Yep
3-D? No thanks
Most every IMAX theater is a “fake” imax and most movies shown there arent actually filmed in imax, so what’s the point of spending the extra money? Nolan seems to be the only one who cares about filming in IMAX
Dolby figured it out. Just take a normal theater room but super size everything. Bigger screen, big reclining leather seats, more speakers, Dolby atoms surround sound, etc. That way a movie doesn’t have to be filmed specifically for that format for it to reap all the benefits (although it does have to be mastered for Dolby)
