My awesome wife bought me a Cajun custom Cajun Delta fishing rod for Father’s Day and told me to go pick out any reel I want. I think I have it narrowed down to the Shimano Stradic CI4+ 3000 and the Daiwa Ballistic LT 2500. I think it would be hard to go wrong with either but I thought I’d see if anyone has first hand experience here. I even considered looking at a Van Staal R50 but that seems a tad excessive. ??

For saltwater I would look at Penn. Seems to me that all the other brands never stay as smooth then my Penn does. I hose all my poles and reels with freshwater when we get back to the dock.

The Daiwa. They are just so smooth, and that one has,

Shimano. 2000/2500/3000 size. Whichever one you like best. I am a big fan of the Stradic. The Ultegra and NASCI look nice as well. I have been going smaller on my spinning reels now that I use braided line capacity is never an issue.

Sounds fancy!

If you mean the stradic ci4+, I couldn't recommend it enough for saltwater. I have a 2500 size for trout and reds. It's very lightweight and I can cast it all day. I also like how it doesn't have a reverse switch on the bottom, so to me, that makes it a little more watertight when fishing saltwater.

The only reason I haven’t really looked at penn is their weight. I’m really wanting to keep this set up light. The two reels i mentioned are both just a touch over 6 oz and I don’t think penn has anything that light.

Second vote for the Stradic here, but if working with a little tighter of a budget the NASCI is actually a really nice reel for $100

Budget isn’t too much of an issue this time... just trying to stay away from Van Staal and Stella’s.

A friend of mine uses the CI4+. Those are nice reels, very smooth.

My favorite of all time was a Daiwa, though I forget the model, it was one of the higher end ones. Got it about 15 years ago. It outlasted all my shimanos (not CI4's though, mostly sedonas and saharas). The Daiwa was light, smooth and durable. I've also had low end daiwas that were garbage.

I guess I'm no help. Can't go wrong with either.

After picking up a CI4, I was hooked. Been using them for a few years and haven't looked back.

Yeah... I think Im going to go with the Stradic CI4+. Most of my other reels are Shimano as well. I was just thinking about trying a different brand for something different.

Stradic or NASCI. I think the NASCI replaced the Symetre (?)...have two symetre's that have been saltwater workhorses. Probably getting a NASCI when (if) they give out. But if someone else is buying...upgrade.

I never get the love for these things. A 2x4 is pretty sturdy too and has about the same sensitivity. To each his own though.

I can't believe anyone still buys them. Worst rods sold anywhere.

I have 2 stradic CI4 reels. One I have had for at least 5-6 years and the other is 2 years old. I have never had an issue with either, great reels.
