What is the general cut off point for wind and seas to have a trip cancelled for an offshore trip out of Grand Isle? Anxiously watching the forecast for this weekend. Currently showing 3ft with a 4s period for the waves and wind out of the SW at 13 mph.

3 footers at that interval is pretty choppy. I’ve been in worse but that’s not exactly comfortable riding

knowing nothing is ever perfect, what is considered "good conditions"?

For me, 1 foot or less and 6s intervals
That's why I stay inshore though

Good conditions end at anything over 1-2's. But it also depends on the boat. 42 freeman will still be an ok ride in 3-4, but not so much in a 30 ft Vee bottom.
what boat are yall going out on?

Zero to 1’s is ideal. 2’s is doable but a little bumpy. 3’s depends on the boat and how mad are you at the fish? 4’s is totally dependent on the boat and how bad you want to feel fishing and the next day.

Going with Capt. Miles Dixon. A google search says he uses a 34' Venture. That doesn't mean much to me. I've only kayak fished. Went on several offshore charters back in college (10+ years ago) but nothing recently.

Miles Boat will handle 3-4’s no problem.

Should be golden but then again, as it get's closer, check the forecast. Wave forecasts change almost hourly.

yeah Miles knows his shite,I'd let him make the call. Like Jab said, if its fishable make sure you have plenty of ice chest

I've heard period should be 2x height, within reason obviously

Definitely trusting his experience. I just like keeping an eye on things.

If the wave period is long enough you can have pretty big waves and comfortable ride
Divide wave period in seconds by wave height in feet. If you end up with more than 2 seconds per foot you’re good to go

I always just add the two numbers together! If it says 2-3 ft, I assume 5’s!

well this weekend isn't looking much better yet. Waiting to hear from Cpt. Miles (hopefully today) to get his take. We are going to the island either way, I just need to know how much beer to buy.
