Ewan McGregor to star in 'The Shining' sequel Doctor Sleep

This will only confuse people who are expecting it to be a sequel to the Kubrick movie.

One does not simply remake the Shining.

Ehh, Kubrick made enough changes from the book that I think a more faithful adaptation could work just fine.

Which is odd because King is usually super supportive of any movie based off his work. Hell I think he even praised the Dark Tower movie which didn't even try to stay faithful to the source material

In the documentary Room 237...one guy interprets the opening scene as Kubrick annoucning to everyone and King that he's not making "The Shining" based on the novel.

In the book Jack drives a Red Bug to the Overlook and passes only a few cars...in the opening scene of the movie Jack is driving a Yellow Bug and passes a car accident where a Red Bug is smashed and crushed on the side of the road and Jack goes by it slowly and stares at it.

And when it came to Jack Nicholson‘s signature turn as Jack Torrance, King felt there wasn’t enough mystery behind whether or not he was losing his mind. “Jack Torrance in the movie, seems crazy from the jump.

As hard as it is to believe now... Shelley Duvall was an amazing actress on a tremendous roll when she took the part.

She was fine after that in a horrendously bad "Popeye". And then her career just went completely into the can. She did some producing. She did some bit roles here and there.

For all intents and purposes "The Shining" ended her career. Carrie Fisher stealing the man she loved probably didn't help. The last time she crossed the public radar was for an episode of Dr. Phil that alarmed folks so much that non profit groups started contacting her to see if she needed assistance.

As much as some love "The Shining" Kubrick was at the height of his reshooting craze during it. He originally wanted Slim Pickens for the role of Dick Halloran but Pickens refused unless it was written into the contract that Kubrick could only do 100 takes of a scene with him in it.

Scatman Crothers took the role and had 60 takes of Kubrick zooming into him just sitting in his bedroom. The role caused 70 year old Crothers to break down to such an extent that Jack Nicholson had to intervene. Shelley Duvall had to do one scene 127 times before Kubrick finally ended it.

He made some great movies but he destroyed a lot of actors doing it.
