Am I the only one that thinks our best group of LBs in our Base Defense would be:

Sam: Klein
Mike: Teo
Will: Davis

Then in Nickle you kick Teo off:

Mike: Davis
Will: Klein

Or vice versa.

Then you have Robertson and Anzalone as reserves.

Robertson next man up before Klein.

I'd like:

Sam: Klein
Mike: Davis
Will: Anzalone

Anzalone is our most talented backer. If he stays healthy, which is a big if, he doesn’t come off the field.

Sam: Craig

Will: Craig

Speed and coverage ability.

Demonstrated ability in games 3-4.

He covers the most ground, sideline to sideline and His ability to play all three downs. He’s our best athlete at that position.
Doesn’t mean crap if he stays in the trainers room, but all pro potential is certainly there

Eta: watch the tape from last year I. His first few games. Although a rookie he was always around the ball. You can tell he has that “it” factor

In an interview Friday, Davis said he's been mostly playing Will with a little Mike mixed in.

I wouldn't read too much into that just yet.

LB last year was a series of musical chairs all offseason. They will experiment again this offseason to make sure the best 3 are out there and in their best position.

I would expect a lot of similarities from OL as well in order to find out who the best reserves are in which spots and in different lineups.

Analzone and Davis should never leave the field when healthy.

I'd say our top 4 are Davis, Robertson, Anzalone, and Te'o, so any lineup that has Klein is subpar (at least athletically).

I'd love to see a base of:
Sam: Robertson
Mike: Davis
Will: Anzalone

With nickel as:
Mike: Davis
Will: Anzalone/Robertson (splitting snaps fairly evenly)

Te'o can spell at Sam at times and come in at Mike if there is an injury.

Klein shouldn't be near the Will spot, and I think he'd be the 3rd or 4th best Mike (after Davis, Te'o, and likely Robertson). That leaves him playing some Sam scraps unless there is an injury.

That is if it was up to me.

In 2 man Lb sets he will have to play that style of role which he will play most of the time.

I think y’all are WAY overselling Anzalone. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a good player and showed his athleticism in his 4 games but y’all are acting like he lit the world on fire.

The kid had 16 tackles which is an average of 4 per game.

His best game came against Carolina where he had 7 tackles.

Again, I’m not saying he’s a bad player or that he won’t turn out to be great. I’m just saying that his actual production does not match the opinions that are being stated in this thread.

Potential to be best coverage LB...it’s a coverage league...the coaching staff seems to really like him. He’s gonna start at WILL if healthy.

Tackle numbers can be misleading. A lot of bad players have racked up tackles yards past the LOS.

It's because of what he did that Carolina game you saw the high upside.

He improved every game he played, just like Kamara did. Unfortunately, Anzalone got injured before he did it more consistently.

He was a rookie last year..

Coaches at Florida had high praise for him as well. first rounder if healthy

That’s an excuse for having average stats.

Kamara, Lattimore, Ram, and Williams were all rookies last year but they all excelled by any metric (stats or eye test).

Again I’m not saying he is bad, I’m just saying that people acting like he’s a shoe in as a starter are basing that on nothing but potential. He didn’t do anything last year that makes him an automatic starter at will.

If the posts were along the lines of “I think Anzalone takes a big step this year, stays healthy, and becomes an impact player.” Then I’d probably agree.

But the posts are more along the lines of “There’s no scenario where Anzalone doesn’t start.”

One guy even proclaimed he’s our best linebacker on the team....

And Kamara had 160 total yards the first 4 games, certainly average, but he surely passed the eye test those first four games along with the preseason. Stats not so much

Anzalone jumps off the screen, he stands out with his ability to find the football. He is the best we have sideline to sideline. He showed that in the few games he played and its exactly what this team has lacked at that position.
