Foot in the door-challenged Shaq and the Lakers.
Foot out the door- challenged The Heatles.

Titles, MVPS, 50+ wins every season in between. advanced metric showing no real decline as he aged. Played on one leg the last 3-4 years of his career. Closest thing to Bill Russell since The Man Himself.

Probably not.

Sometimes, I think it's a curse to be productive, but not transcendent, late in your career. There's a tendency to forget just how good Duncan was during his first 10 years in the NBA.

Why should he? Poppovich wins 50 games a year with scrubs

50 wins is nothing noteworthy.. The locker room has fallen apart since Duncan left. And they haven’t and won’t come close to winning a title for the reimainder of pops tenure. Duncan > pop. And I love pop.

I tend to agree he should get more discussion. Big men tend to have to have gaudy individual stats or something else. The Spurs being upstarts and not an old school, "elite" franchise probably didn't help (same thing for Stockton/Malone - their being a dynamic duo AND playing for the Jazz don't help them in GOAT discussions). Kind of like a "better" Kevin McHale, all Duncan did was score efficiently, rebound and play defense - you know, "basketball" in the front court, averaged a double-double for his career. Plus no personal life drama (to speak of), little trash talking or self-aggrandizement. Duncan really was a throwback to a Bill Russell-style.

I love the guy, but get rustled when people call him the GOAT PF when my eyes told me he was really a C.

The Spurs under Pop ran a twin towers scheme. Duncan was a tweener. He wasn't quite thick enough to play a physical low post game, but was really too tall to play the 3 spot. He did have great feet and range for a big man.

If GOAT = efficient, he's got an argument at PF.

the spurs pretty much always did have a banger 5 next to him (Drob in his old age to Tiago Splitter)

it wasn't until the very end with aldridge that Duncan became his mentor and became that banger 5

Duncan played and acted with class. That does not work with the under 40 crowd!

If you don't have him in the top 10 all time then you don't know basketball end of story. Should of won MVP in 99. Not 04 I forgot about KG
