Figured the OB is the best place to ask. How many of you park your full sized truck in a garage?

I've been in a car or SUV for about 8 years now. Car got totaled last week and need to buy something new. I liked my car, but it was too nice for the abuse I put on it (Drive 80+ miles a day). And I absolutely would hate driving around in a "lesser" car. Plus, trucks hold their value with high miles better and the F150 ecoboost might get me decent mileage (was getting 25-26, and hope to get 22 with mostly interstate driving).

Problem is I park on the side of the garage that is a little shorter. Total of 237" and it appears an F150 supercrew with 5.5' bed is 232". That's tight. Anybody use a good system that would let you park within inches relatively easily. I could always switch spots in the garage and have room, but my wife prefers her side for getting the kid out/etc......and we all know what that means.

I have no personal experience but I have read a number of times that the ecoboost engine goes to shite at or around 100k miles. Given your commute I would go Toyota. I have a similar commute and that's what I did.

Soooo, the deal is fuel mileage. I get a Toyota and that's out the window with a quickness.

Get the 5.0 and be done

Or the Chevy

The OB will never direct you to an ecoboost

Depends on the year. New ecoboost >>>>older ecoboost

I know my 2016 Chevy with the 5.3 has the variable cylinder system that shuts down 4 cylinders while cruising. Pretty sure all the 1500 have it now. Gets right around the mileage your looking for.

The only person I know with an eco boost traded it in pretty quick because of issues.
It’s been my experience you either have a host of problems with a ford or not many at all.

Yes Toyota’s are the worse when it comes to mileage but I traded one in and can’t wait to get another one.

Whatever truck you decide on, just use the ole tennis ball trick for parking. Get someone's help to park your new truck in the exact spot you'll need to be in for your garage door to close. Then just hang a tennis ball where it touches your windshield when you pull in to that exact spot.

I'm not asking for truck advice. Internet is the internet and know people who like theirs. I have always driven Chevy's and would not thought I'd end up in a Ford in general. But my last experience soured me on Chevy and the situation lends itself to the Ford ecoboost working. You can always find someone who doesn't like something. This is more about garage space. And the chevy only gets you about 2" more.

Park your truck how you like it, then hang a tennis ball on a string from the ceiling so that it just touches your windshield or wherever. Now, all you have to do is pull in until the ball touches your truck.

That said, my "two car" garage is exactly that - a two CAR garage. I've yet to even try to get my truck in it. I had planned to, but then I bought a jeep as a side toy, so it gets parked there and my poor, old truck just sits in the driveway.

*Edit* Dammit, Dave, I typed all that out and you beat me by seconds with a photo.

I'm about to have this problem with my boat. Do they build garages smaller nowadays?

I'll be moving into a new house in a couple weeks. The garage looked plenty big enough, but after taking some measurements I think even fitting my truck in there would be tight. You'd think an 18' boat wouldn't have much trouble fitting in a garage. With the outboard and trailer tongue I'm about a foot too long.

i have a 2018 gmc.. im sure ford has same technology. But the front sensor system works for me in my garage. I have a deep freeze on my side of garage, and i just watch the parking sensors in the dash, when they are full and its beeping fast i stop. Always within 3" or so.

Yup, Tennis ball would be the cheapest and easiest. They do make sensors that will flash or bitch at you but the tennis ball is almost foolproof.

I'm not getting too fancy with this, so it won't have the front sensors. But even so, my Lexus had them and my wife's car even has the bird's eye cameras. They help, but getting within 3" is still hard to see on camera/sensors.

I'm aware of the tennis ball system. But again, if it's just slightly off angle or something, is it going to be an issue. Guess I can't really get off angle much with the truck compared to the car though just to fit through the door.

Garage is a 2.5 car garage. Width wise, I'm fine. Lot's of space. It's just that the entrance into the utility room is on my side and it juts out the width of the door plus a little extra. So I lose some space.

Either the tennis ball trick or just back in (assuming you have camera). I actually prefer just backing in and watching my distance with the camera. I parked my Chevy 1500 in a tight garage area for about a year or two and honestly hated it, so I just started parking outside and used my space to store all my lawn shite. That worked well for me because my entire property is gated and I have an electric gate, so parking "outside" was still secure and no one was going to mess with my truck.

Parking outside isn't an issue from a safety standpoint. I never leave anything in my car except for workout gear and good luck to whoever wants that. But my driveway is on a hill at about a 30 degree slope until you are in the garage. Pain to park there. I would switch spots with wife before that. Backing in is a good option too.

Even thinking of putting some dock bumper rails for boats against that wall so that I have a little more confidence to get close without a scuff.

I have an F-150 and park in my garage every night. I back in every single time and know where the lines on my backup camera need to be to stop.

That being said if you decide to back in you need to be careful with your side mirrors depending on if a 2 door garage or single.

Another solid idea. Just get the f150 with the senors as well as the back up camera and call it good. For precision,
You could paint lines on the floor that would correspond with the lines on your camera's screen. keep it on the lines and always be golden.

Not sure if mentioned yet but buy a 21" antenna on Amazon or that factory 33" one will slap the top and drag every time you go and come.

Yeah, but literally with like 6" to spare, camera isn't going to be picking up the floor anymore. Could probably make marks on the wall to correspond to camera. Really worried more about the 2 or 3 inch "rock" that happens in a vehicle after you park and let off the brake.
