Quite possibly. Great location with an average fastball velocity and a major league curveball. Kid is probably the next great thing for us.

He turned down a second round pick. Hes pretty fricking good

Hard to say since he isn’t on campus yet but on paper yes.

Nice. Good problem to have figuring this rotation out.

I definitely think Marceaux is better than Walker & Labas "right now" because both Walker & Labas are hurt.
Labas pitching a Sunday or being the weekday guy is a wonderful option.

I have a strong desire for LSU to have a dependable mid week starter who we can count on to shut down the state schools with regularity.

Idk that CPM would really do it though, unless this staff is so absolutely loaded that he has that luxury. If you have that solid #4 guy, then is he better to start mid week games, or be available out of the pen during SEC play? I would think the latter is much more important, unless the pen is so stacked on the weekend that you have that option.

I honestly think we see it next year. Paul understands the benefit of having 4 quality starters come tourney time. He just hasn't had the luxury very often

Well pretty much nobody has that luxury

I guess it depends where he rates the importance of each position.

Is it

1- Friday night guy
2- sat guy
3- sun guy
4- closer
5- set up guy
6- 2 dependable mid relief
7- midweek starter

Or does mid week starter sit at 5? If not, you are looking at maybe your 8th best pitcher in that midweek role. We can't be that damn deep can we?

Edit: come to think of it, we damn well could be.

Walker, Marceaux, LaBas (just throwing 3 out)

Hess, Peterson, Fontenot, Hillard as the other group

That leaves Storz as 8, as well as other talented freshman.

(I am not saying Stortz is the 8th best pitcher. Just putting names to the numbers).

6 and 7 are essentially the same things. I don't think you ever want your midweek guy throwing complete games. You want someone who can give you 5 good innings and be ready to throw an inning on sunday. You would theoretically throw your 4th best starter type in that role. Not necessarily you're 4th best pitcher.

It just seems like next year We're going to be floating up to our eyeballs in starters

Something I havnt seen mentioned: Todd Peterson moving back to a starter role.

He started off there this year but really came into his own out of the pen. He’s got starter stuff, a good build, and doesn’t rely so much on emotion like Hess does.

Just another option PM will have. I think he’ll eventually work back to the rotation just not sure when.

Latz ain't here no more homie

I think you mean Labas

I think you're looking at

Fri. Storz Sat. Marceaux Sun. Walker

Then best if the pen is:
Hilliard, Hill, Beck, Fontenot, Peterson, Hess

Then you have Labas to throw midweek with guys like Kodros and Veitmeir.

It's definitely possible. Hes got the stuff to be a Friday night guy down the line. It just depends if they want to take the risk of fixing something that ain't broke

Walker, Labas, Storz for the weekend. Peterson midweek. Hess closing out Friday and Sunday. Gilbert setup man with Hilliard long relief

There is no realistic weekend rotation prediction without Marceaux in it.

So your weekend rotation is 3 guys coming off injury that pitched little or none this season?

Gilbert tanked hard this year. He’s fighting an uphill battle to get a legit role next season.

Also you have the possibility of Sanders returning. If that's the case then this may be the filthiest pitching staff ever assembled in college baseball.

I'm only kind of joking

But God if he got back to form and Sanders stays....

I'm serious in saying I don't think I've ever seen an LSU pitching staff with this potential. Have you ell?

Add:
Beck
Fontenot
Sanders (maybe?)
Gilbert (healthy)
Jaden Hill (incoming fresh)
Cole Henry (incoming fresh)

Among others...you have a stacked bullpen. I expect one or two of these guys to leave or get drafted. Always happens...
