but why should it matter to the donor's family what the medical treatment costs on the other end of the transplant?
He was saying how expensive it is. I was explaining why.
It shouldn't matter....the donor's family isn't charged for ANY of the costs associated with everything that goes into organ donation/transplantation.

Is there any sort of burial assistance that is offered by the hospital or does that fit into the ethical thing?

Paige, that is wonderful to read. I’m glad you posted it.
To answer your question, yes.

Not sure. But I do know that they do the harvesting in such a way that family can still have a open casket viewing if they wanted. Again..they are very sensitive and respectful to the families wishes.

Not necessarily, a lot of money is made on transplants and that's a good thing. Otherwise it wouldn't exists. There's ways for the family of the donor to be compensated.
Paige, I'm sorry about your father. I am an organ donor fwiw

Profitable transplant programs are profitable b/c they pick and choose recipients with more scrutiny than their governing body advises, limiting complications and rejections so as to spend less in the post-op global period. The average transplant program is far less profitable than the downstream services that transplant patient will eventually end up in.
100% true. Been thru all the tests for a transplant. If I remember right, 27 test were done on me that took a week in the hospital. Besides that, then comes up with how you going to pay for a transplant. The insurance I carry cost a shite load, by if and when I need it, it will cover 100% for a transplant.

I'm not due to an irrational fear that doctors won't work as hard to save my life if I'm in a catastrophic accident once they know I'm a donor.
My dad’s best friend feels this way. Cracks me up

I know for a fact their fears are unfounded.

I know it's irrational, but you can't possibly know it as a fact.

No, but he’d have died and had to be buried regardless
Thank you, aspy

Because you died?

Since I will be cremated anyways, may as well have the organs. Perhaps I will give a grid location of where my tree is planted in case they want to pop by. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

I am. I won’t need my organs when I’m dead. If me dying can help other people live, then it’s worth it. But I am not planning on living up to that anytime soon. I’d like to keep my heart beating for another 70+ years.
I know there are people out there who don’t want to be organ donors for non-religous reasons. That is their right, but I think it is a bit selfish.

Organ donor and signed up to be a bone marrow donor if needed. I also donate blood and platelets.
When I'm gone, they can take whatever they can use.

I'm pretty sure they rarely call on women. It has to do with body mass or something
