Eventually you’ll swim so far that you’ll reach another beach.

This was the news today about another near victim just asking to dedicate his life to the old man in the sea. Mr Toups of Houma La was very lucky that a life guard plucked his arse out of the gulf but had he not been around neither would Mr. Toups. Red flag means danger. And Double Red means stay out. The flags flying today was double red and yet he elected to swim in the gulf. Take care of yourself and your family and please be careful this summer.

When we take the kids to Gulf Shores/Flordia and flags are red, I joke that if they get more than ankle-deep in the Gulf, I'm gonna be taking one less kid back to Baton Rouge.

People swimming out there without flotation devices remind me of dangerous drivers on the interstate. stupid and reckless.

Parallel to the shore.

Perpendicular to the current.

Are yall fricking retarded?
You swim 90 degrees from plane aka Perpin-frickin-dicular to the SHORE until you're out of the current.

We have two issues here, cocknocker.

I never misunderstood the p words. I was simply saying that you swim OUT with the current first and don't fight against it. THEN swim to shore like the picture showed.

My daughter just aced her honors Geometry class as a freshman. she gets that shite from ME, dammit.

Got to the point I dont even think deaths at San Luis make the news. That place is flat out dangerous to swim in because you have currents going from the bay to the gulf and vise versa. The path you walk out in is probably going to be gone when you go to head back. Used to do a lot of wade fishing out there until it hit me just how wild the tides are at that point.

Last weekend some jackass got his Jeep stuck up to the windows in water because they didnt think about the low tide/high tide shifts

Yes I did, You were simply one step too far ahead in the escape process. You go Perp FIRST! THEN Parallel.

You are not supposed to swim with the rip current farther out to sea, your "perpendicular" swimming. You don't know how far out the rip current will take you. You immediately start swimming parallel to the beach until you are out of it. The arrows headed offshore in your graphic are not swimming directions, they are illustrations of where the current is pulling you.

Just admit you mixed up parallel and perpendicular.

I absolutely didn't mix them up.
I was always taught and teach the kids "Don't fight the current. let it carry you out THEN swim parallel and angle back towards shore."

was misunderstanding about what's first, but I damn well didn't mix up the two Ps.

Mikelbr is definitely a future rip current victim.
