There is too much on the line for LSU not to start the best "on paper" QB on the roster unless he is injured. Unless Brennan or McMillan are blowing away Burrow in practice (they cant even beat each other), you give it to Burrow because Coach O is not only needing to win games. He needs to win the hearts and minds of the fan base many of which he lost with off season drama. Burrow is perceived as the best QB on the roster by most so unless you go undefeated with any other QB people will call for the coaches head. Aleva and coach O I am sure have in the back of their minds that this will be a make or break season for them both.
Lose to Miami with Burrow as the starter - people will be upset but forgivable by many because we are SUPPOSED to lose to them right? Everyone will still be angry. Everyone will call for everyone except Mike the Tiger to be fired, but it will pale in comparison to losing to Miami with the perceived best QB on the bench. The calls for heads to roll will get louder with every passing day. Go 9-3, maybe even 8-4 with Burrow, I think coach O survives. 9-3, 8-4 with Brennan and Burrow on the bench, no way. Unless Joe gets injured he will start.

Wrong. LSU football is not SUPPOSED to lose to anybody.

Will there be games that LSU doesn't win here and there? Sure. But there is not a game that they are supposed to lose. Any fan who thinks this way has accepted mediocracy.

Well that's fricking stupid.

What do you mean "on paper"?

What about if one of them is just slightly better than Burrow? We should start Burrow even if others are out-performing him?

I'm not reading the rest of your post. Too much stupidity in the first 2-3 statements.

He's absolutely starting unless he's a complete trainwreck.

If he's tied with the other guys he starts. If he's a little behind the other guys, he still starts. This is O's guy.

If we lost to Miami and Burrow didn't start O would get killed.

Burrow will start every game for LSU, barring injury.

Orgeron should do what he thinks gives LSU the best chance to win. Start the QB he thinks is the best, not what the fans think. He should recruit the players he wants and who he ranks highest, not what the recruiting services say are better. IMO, he should run the program the way he sees fit, he's the coach. Now, whether or not he is correct is a completely different conversation. But, I definitely do not believe he should consider who the fans want on the field when deciding who to start.

Unless the coaches perceive him to be the best, who gives a shite?

I am no O fan at all, but the starting QB should be the one the coaches feel gives them the best shot to win, no matter what the fans think.

And if O starts someone other than the best based on fan perception, he is an even bigger idiot than I think.

I can write it out for you as clearly as possible but I can't understand it for you.
ON PAPER Burrow is the best QB on staff. The limited stats point to that. The college football talking heads, meaning people smarter than I, and yes, even smarter than you as hard as that may be to believe say that too.
The videos out there available for these 3 guys seem to show Burrow playing the position at a more advanced level. There is plenty of stuff out there on Youtube for all 3.
THATS what I mean by on PAPER.
I can imagine how many books you started to read but dropped because you thought were stupid after the first page. Might explain why you are having a problem understanding though. Hang in there man

I do have trouble understanding why you think fan perception should have anything at all to do with who the coaches decide to start.

There have been some dumbass posts in my time here at The Rant. But this one may just take the cake. Are you really suggesting that a sports team should start a player even if he is NOT the best player at his position? My God, that is some next level stupid shite.

I re-watched the spring game. I'd be comfortable with McMillan starting. He has great presence in the pocket, and he can make most of the throws. He struggled a bit throwing darts to the middle of the field.

That being said, I think Burrow is a step beyond. Great pocket presence, great deep ball, can throw darts to any point on the field, and can throw on the run. I think it would benefit all our QBs to stay on and learn from Joe.

Brother I couldn't agree more. I didn't say that what I wrote was right, it just is what it is. Winning the hearts and minds of LSU fans I think most fans will agree was at least partially in Alevas mind when he gave O the job. It's the same hearts and minds that will make him lose it if he is on the bubble.

He should start who he thinks can win. The wins and loses will determine his future at LSU.
