I mean, sure. Given a choice of many other options, graduating college in 2009 was a rough draw.

But acting like you drew the generationally shittiest draw possible is Christ on a cracker foolish.

I started this thread throwing HUGE darts at my generation. I'm totally good throwing darts where they go.

But for frick's sake. The entire "we have it so bad today" thing is just goddamned insanity.

I have a relative who graduated with a Petroleum engineering degree in 1984.

I'm not sure it's possible to have graduated with a Petroleum engineering degree in a worse year.

Seemed like a great call in 1980!

Hasnt the unemployment rate been like 6.8% over the last decade?

And i seem to remember a lot of buzz about the "true UE" being much higher.

Why are you discounting the last decade in favor of a few months of 4% UE?

No way.

Millennials have it infinitely worse.

He probably made $300 jillion dollars immediately out of college and retired at 30.

Millenials these days just don’t wanna work. They take out loans instead of working over the summer to pay for school like us boomers did

Pretty much. I’m a millennial and it’s very clear if you have a good work ethic and common sense you can get way ahead.

Also the wife and I will be substiantially better off than my parents who were boomers based on our good choice of college degrees and careers.

Ppl my age spend $200 a ticket to watch some kid DJ at Red Rocks, then turn around and bitch about the cost of living.

New money millennials earn plenty, but spend money like they grew up and lived in a trailer until last year.

That said, I gotta tell you. I'm 51 and other than the straight up tech people I've worked with, I run circles around younger employees. And it's weird to me. How can people who have had the computer for the whole lives, not know how to format a Word document to generate a memo? WTF?

It’s because Word isn’t in the least bit intuitive to use, and I say that as someone who has been using it for decades. Office “skills” are mostly rote memorization. Now, there’s nothing inherently wrong with that. I’m simply pointing out why otherwise computer literate people still deal with a bit of a learning curve when it comes to office suites.

But unlike Boomers, once you show a Millinial how to do it, they will do it. Boomers will proudly tell you that there is no chance they will remember this, so either write down the steps for them, or be prepared for them to ask every time

I'm not. As I said. Sure, you can point to negatives.

But for frick's sake, go check the UE history PLUS inflation history PLUS mortgage rate history of the 70s.

My point is acting as if you fell into some unique time of the abyss is silly.

In state tuition and fees at a “cheap” public institution like LSU is almost $12k per year before you’ve bought a book, ate a bite of food, or paid a month of rent. LSU Law is $23k per year. The idea that a summer job can pay for a year’s with of education/living expenses at this point is the height of delusional

I get that.

But I see young people doing shite in the hardest, longest, least accurate way possible because they can't be bothered to get beyond thinking of MS Excel as "Word with Rectangles".

It's very odd to me.

You have to realize. I entered the workforce unable to type. Then, I got a job where, it may not have required typing, but being able to actually fricking type made me better. So, I literally bought a $6 typing tutor CD and learned to type. To the point that in fairly short order, I was a 70+ wpm guy.

So, quite obviously, I also didn't know shite about computers beyond VERY basic shite.

But, when the tools came along, I learned them.

So, I'm completely baffled when a person with a degree who I KNOW had to do papers that required them to use programs such as MS Word............how the frick they spent 4 years doing it and came out the other end no better than my 8 year old at it?

I've seen pretty much zero evidence this is the case. I literally bumped into that a 3 weeks ago.

One section is putting out this product to track utilization and the thing is just comically useless. Basically, if you don't have them in the room to explain it, no amount of time on your part will give you "information" from this product.

It drives people batty. So, someone who knows I'm good at that shite asked me to work with it.

I show up to the next meeting with that tool in tow to show how it can be used. Basically, an manager in the building could take my tool and instantly answer any questions he had regarding availability. And, I mean INSTANTLY.

HOLLLLLLEEEEE frick did the millennial who "owned" the other product get bent out of shape. I might as well have told them their pussy stunk.

Oh, and guess what. They're STILL resisting changing despite EVERYONE saying they're dissatisfied with their product.

Why? Well, they'll tell you "cause theirs works for them" but what they REALLY mean is, "we don't know how to do what Shorty does and even though we could learn it in like 10 minutes, we don't wanna".

While millenials didnt deal with mortgage rates (irrelevant because we cant afford houses anyways) or inflation.. what other generation was saddled with an average of 40k in student loan debt prior to entering a highly educated/competitive workforce with ~6.8% UE? Between the recession and being raised by the sorriest generation.. I think its a unique plight.

Other groups have had it shitty too. Some were fricking drafted and forced to fight in a war. Thats a far shittier hand to be dealt.

Same here actually.

Of course, we can't tell you how many times we're befuddle when we ask you to do something 3 weeks ago, and then, when we follow up, you tell us in day 2 you ran into an obstacle so, no, you haven't.

There's sort of an obvious follow up to the "ran in to an obstacle" part that I find very few millennial even seem aware of.

I'm always like, "cool. You ran into an obstacle. Tell me about the things you did to try and overcome that obstacle".

Answer is typically...........jack shite. They basically took the obstacle as an "oh boy, now I have an excuse to not do that" sign.
