Police are no longer pursuing criminal charges against a mother who was initially jailed on the suspicion she allowed her 5-year-old son to ingest cocaine.
quote:
The mother brought her son to Detroit Children's Hospital because he was acting "erratically" on May 15
quote:
A urine test was conducted and, due "to a technical problem," it produced an erroneous positive result for cocaine
quote:
Police submitted a warrant review request soon after the false positive test result, but prosecutors returned it to police for more investigation
quote:
"Additional toxicology testing in the case revealed that the child did not have cocaine, or any other drugs in his system,"
quote:
Child Protective Services also opened an investigation into the mother based upon the incorrect urine test results.
quote:
"I'm just completely humiliated," the mother told WXYZ-TV, Channel 7 News. "I brought (my son) to be get screened for ADHD, doing what a mother should do for her child.
quote:LINK
"After 36 hours (in jail) they had to let me go. As I'm walking out the Lieutenant waited on me (and) apologized to me and said Children's (Hospital) called him and said the results were a mistake."

Is it standard protocol for nurses to test disorderly 5 year olds for cocaine?
If not then I’m pretty sure she just made like $500,000 per hour she was in jail.

In low income areas, yes.
Occam's Razor.
Testing for ingestation of poisons should be step one.

At least they admitted their mistake and didn’t try to cover it up and ruin this woman’s life. Still I’d sue them for whatever I could get.

Getting ahead of the story to look better at election time is hardly charity.

So they used a false drug test to punish her. They took her child which is now in the CPS system. Our country can be such a bitch sometimes.

They should have jailed her for longer than 36 hrs for clogging up a busy emergency room for a simple outpatient problem like ADHD.

CPS should be abolished. I'm serious. Those asshats have completely unlimited and unchecked power

DIL has a cousin that had two kids born addicted to crack. She still has the kids and is still doing crack.

CPS opened an investigation because, according to the hospital that administered the drug test, a 5 year old tested positive for cocaine.
What’s wrong with that ?

Was she getting him tested for ADHD to be able to qualify for Social Security?

Do Emergency departments even test for ADHD?? Seems random to take a 5 year old to the ER on suspicion of ADHD ? Where is the childs’ pediatrician and why wasn’t this done at their office ???

Emergency departments
Why do people keep saying this? Where does it say she took him to the ER? There are doctors offices in hospitals.
