I broke 6 rods this weekend dud to a flip back bed cover on the tailgate! I’m looking for some decent quality rods at good prices. Any suggestions?

If you bought them from Academy you could just exchange them.

Jus sayin.

Most of these rods were purchased years ago. I did have a baitcaisting rod that I bought from Academy that I broke even more due to anger... I don’t think they take that back!

All star used to be my go-to for rods on the lower end, but I hear people saying they’ve dropped off a bit. I would probably go that route if I needed backups or beaters.

Boyd Duckett has gotten the last dime he’ll ever get from me. Other than that all the major brands are about the same. You’ll get a Chinese blank with cheap components. Inspect close for anything that looks off and buy from somewhere that won’t fight you tooth and nail if there’s an issue. For me that’s prettymuch always academy.

I used to buy rods depending on what kind of warranty they had, those days are almost gone. Too many people took advantage of it.

I like Falcon.

I've broken more than I'd like to admit in car windows, ceiling fans, doors, running them into the ground, garage doors, trolling motors and stepping on them.

But I've broken more than I should have on setting the hook on fish and pulling when hung up.

I think some of the big names quality control just isn't there with some of these rods.

I’ve always been a Falcon guy... two were Falcon, two were Lews, and one was All-Star. They were old Falcon and All-Star Rods... back when they were made great. The spinning rod was a Daiwa.

It’s not really there at all, at least at the lowest price points. The market wants certain things in a rod but most of the big guys can only do that below $100 by having it done in China. Some factories are better than others and there’s lemons and gems in every batch. Usually the only real difference between a $79 rod and a $159 one is minor upgrades in guides and a good bit more QC.

Because I have 6 to replace, I would say max $100 a piece. I might opt to go real cheap on a few and over $100 on a couple.

My cousin has around 30 Rods he don’t use in great shape.
If you are in the BR are you might be able to put something together (flip, crank, spinner bait. Worm rod) and he will sell them $20 each. These could get you off the ground until you figure out what you want.
He has more in his shed that most are probably rarely used.

Go with Lew's maybe, their customer service is too notch. They will replace the rod also if you break it. They even let me upgrade to a better model before.

I did the exact same thing a few years back. I made a terrible decision and my backflip cost me four rods in a spit second. I’m still sick over it. Now I only buy my rods from Academy.

To your question, I prefer my Falcon and St. Croix rods. Sorry for your loss.

Cabela's bargain cave for discounts on pretty good stuff. Also, their brand is a great value.
