This was about him evaluating the competence of our coaching staff. It was probably easy to do if he didn't want his son here in the first place

This is probably very true and again highlights the shite show that Alleva put in charge of the football program.

It’s a lot easier to believe he will choose Cincinnati because they do t like Ed than it is to believe he just wants to be close to his mom.

Then what would be his "professional" reasoning for Cincy

They aren’t led by the worst coach in Ole Miss and possibly SEC history?

I agree this could play a part if he doesn’t come here.

Daddy is a defensive coordinator. Yes, at Ohio U, but he’s run a unit and gameplanned.

It wouldn’t take this guy long talking to O to figure: “This guy can’t talk to me about SCHEME ... all he can do is talk TECHNIQUE for DL’s. Hell, he’s a position coach in over his head.”

Yep.

All of the bells, whistles, amenities and recruiting tactics weren't going to work with this guy. He was only here to talk football.

He's literally more knowledgeable about the game than the guy to whom he'd be handing his son. If it's true that he didn't want his son here I'm sure it wasn't difficult to pick Orgeron apart from a football knowledge perspective.

He has more ability than the average father to highlight the positives of Cincinnati and negatives of LSU.

Have you ever personally sat down & discussed football with O?

If he chooses Cincinnati, then there is probably not much LSU could have done to convince him to come here. The level of competition, exposure, surrounding talent, realistic opportunity to play for a title ALL favor LSU. That, as well as the fact LSU isn't returning a starting QB. But if he felt more comfortable at Cincy because of the relationship with a former coach and proximity to home, then I don't know how LSU could compete with that.
Like I said yesterday, if LSU can't out recruit Cincinnati for Joe Burrow there are major problems in this program. (But most of us already know that)

Cincinnati.......That's where the Reds play, right?

This isn't a normal father. This is a father with expert football knowledge. Jimmy Burrow has been a DC at an FBS school since 2005.

Jimmy Burrow is probably more qualified to be HC at LSU than Orgeron for goodness sakes.

Then why did he even bother to come visit here? The way some of you guys are talking make it seem like LSU shouldn’t even be given the time of day, and it’s been the vaunted Cincy in the lead the whole time. Nobody knows shite.

Probably primarily because of the relationship the Burrows have with Busch, the safeties coach.

What does this have to do with anything? I'm not a football coach.

You think it's out of bounds for me to suggest that a defensive coordinator, one that's kept his job for 13 years, may know more than a career d-line coach?

Yes, choose Cincy whose only win last season over a team with a winning record was against FCS Austin Peay and was 8-16 in it's most recent seasons vs a 17-8 LSU over the last 2 seasons.

This comment pretty much ends this discussion. The DC at Cincy is better than our HC. This is such a true statement. Conversation over.

Was the same excuse after Surtain. We don't pay the coach to win anymore, we just need him to try.

I keep reading the OP's title as Melting

I always felt if he was coming to LSU he would leave having picked us. Somewhat disappointed if he goes elsewhere.

Lol? Do you know that they don’t?
Let me tell you something about coaching, there are absolutely phenomenal coaches in D -2 and D-3, much less Cincinnati. Don’t think that because we’re LSU our coaches are automatically better.
I don’t think you would like to see a poll of who people think is a better HC between O and Pickel.

Have you?
