Do you think Hess will come back to improve his draft stock?

This year seams to be loaded with pitching studs, and hopefully, it may alter Hess' decision to return. Thoughts?
Or does a team draft him as a closer and that is the end of it?

He will have decision to make but he has all the leverage too.
I don't think he goes 1st round, doesn't mean he won't get a decent offer
With another year as a starter, I think he could be easy first rounder

It doesnt matter. The MLB doesnt draft closers or long relief or starter or middle relief. They draft pitchers and give them the role they like them in. It really doesnt matter as long as they like his stuff

Good to know...thanks for the info....so in that case, I hope he returns as the closer for LSU next year. It was fun to watch last year towards the end of the season.

Also no.
He's going to drafted as a pitcher. Not a starter, not a closer. He will be given a chance to start in the minor leagues to develop his third pitch and as he moves up the ladder it will be determined if he will stay as a starter or move to the bullpen. What type of reliever he ends up being, if he moves to the bullpen, will not be decided for some time.
Given the new trends in the way pitching staffs are managed, he could end up being a one time thru or two time thru the order reliever depending on how he develops.

The absolute only reason Hess may consider coming back is because he has another year of bargaining power. If he is drafted by a team, in a position that he doesn't like the slot value in, and that team can't pay over slot, then he may decide to come back. A lot will depend on that for both Hess and Watson. Its a safe bet to say both will be gone though.

With his leverage there is always a chance, but he will likely be offered first or supplemental first round money, even if drafted in later rounds.
The injury risk for a pitcher is so high, should he get hurt as a junior he'll have to sit a year and then hope for a shot at a senior sign.
The only way I see him coming back is if someone low balls him, or someone drafts a few guys like him. Players that are high price tag with leverage, and they sign 2-3 of them and he is the odd man out.

Why is everyone so hung up on this. He will be drafted on the fact that he can run the ball up to 98 and can place a curveball sometimes.

I agree but the only hitch is that he is a draft eligible sophomore, so he could enter the draft, play hardball and still be able to enter next years draft as a Junior and have leverage.
It's a longshot and I'm guessing he'd basically have to ask Paul to guarentee he'd get to start next year, which i don't think is a given.

I agree with what you are saying but, I’d say him coming back as a reliever could help his stock simply because of how much different his stuff is out the pen. Him being the closer last year boosted his stock more than than anything he did this year.

If he came back it was almost assuredly be as a starter. Another year under MLB-caliber pitching coach like Dunn could help him turn the corner, thus boosting his stock.
He always has reliever in the back pocket. They know he can do that. He could bomb as a starter next year and still be drafted high given the fact they know his stuff plays as a relief pitcher. It's a win-win for him to try and give it another shot as a starter.

Very possible. He’s a sophomore and loves LSU. I believe if he’s not drafted in the top 7 rounds he’s coming back. Zach has 1st round type stuff and he’s not projecting there.
Lange went to the cubs in the 1st and they drafted him as a closer.
If I asked you who do you want to close a game- Lange or Hess? I bet you’d have to think about it.
