Grill accessory spinoff - grill brushes

Coater has told me a story or two about removing grill brush bristles from peoples throats. I've steered clear of the traditional wire brushes for that reason. I had a stone one that was interesting for a while.
What are you guys using for a grill brush?

My wife warned about that risk so I’ve started using crumpled up aluminum foil. If the fire is going you need to protect your hand ‘cause the foil gets hot quick.

I still use wire brushes and try to replace them pretty often to reduce any risk. Quick glance at the grill grate before putting anything on just to make sure I don't see any loose bristles. They're just too good at cleaning the grill to give up on over a small chance at a loose bristle.

Check out something called The Great Scrape, I have one and it works well.

I'm using this: Bristle-less Brush
Works great, although will eventually get gunked up which reduces its effectiveness. Just set it over coals for a minute or two to burn the gunk off and you're good to go again.

Kenmore makes this for Sears, and I've had really good luck with it...plus it's only $4.

Does anyone just not clean their grates?

I still use a wire brush.
Will likely replace it with a nylon one when it needs it. In the meantime, I just like to live dangerously.

You can also cut an onion in half and use it to clean your grill grates on a hot grill. The acidity from the onion will break up stuck on debris, and it smells awesome.

Been using a wire brush for 10 years. My dad plenty more than that. Not once have I found a bristle in my meat.
