What is that people can't understand? Yes, Miles had a lot of talent. But that doesn't mean that it's everywhere. That doesn't mean that there wasn't a lack of depth at certain positions (most notably the lines). He obviously never recruited QB's either
Sooooo, you're describing like 95% of teams out there. There may be a couple with near perfect, quality depth. And those teams are always in the NC hunt.

O had to allow more scholarship for areas that we had significant gaps in. By doing so, it took away scholarships that you normally have for more high profile players.
He ran off a lot of those depth players because, as Space Cowboy put it, they weren't going to play anyway, which is irony if I've ever heard it.

I don't see how you can say this when Orgeron didn't sign a single CB, which was probably one of the biggest area's of need.
It seems like Orgeron is doing the exact same thing Miles was doing. He's neglected certain areas while heavily investing in others. The only difference is he's just flipped which is neglected and which is focused on from what Miles was doing.
Neglecting, and messing up are 2 different things.
He had his guy. Surtain. He was also working hard to get another scholarship to give to MG. He also wasn't counting on Tolliver leaving. Who was? And in all fairness, even Donte at that point was 50/50.
And so, it wasn't neglecting. It was more of a perfect storm and a screw up.
And I also wonder if there wasn't a little fear of over signing that position so that it didn't work against him with Stingley and others this year.

Just for the record, Ed O was the recruiting coordinator under Les Miles and had significant input on several classes prior to taking over as head coach.
There has been a lot of revisionist history around here on this point.

I understand that, but officially it wasn't his call. At the end of the day, Miles ultimately chose the direction they would go with recruiting. Ed's job, was to implement it.
IF you look close enough, you can clearly see that the approach Ed has is much different, and that management of the roster is also much different.
However, Ed is also failing at the QB position. And I honestly don't think he realizes the urgency involved.

You basically just absolved Orgeron of all blame for the same shite you, literally, just drug Miles through the mud for.
Also, the part that I singled out.......He was working so hard to get a scholarship that he didn't even use his full allotment? Seems to me like you're just making shite up.

He offered the OC job to Lane Kiffin again this past offseason. That's desperate.
I think he realizes the urgency. He just doesn't have what it takes to close the deal on those guys. Since he can't sell an OC, I think he wants to recreate 2016, where they were breaking records vs inferior competition, and hope that carries the day as far as getting these top guys.
I think he'd been better off just keeping Canada and sell continuity of offense but that's beating a dead horse.

Because he's paid good money to recruit.

If Coach Orgeron does everything in his power under NCAA recruiting guidelines and Kids like Sopsher and Stingley decide to sign with Alabama, why is that orgeron's fault?
Mainly because the head guy gets the credit good or bad. Miles got the credit for losing Landon Collins and Cam Robinson. He appropriately got the credit for landing LF.
The best thing for LSU and CEO this year might be UGA and Auburn. If a couple teams beat Bama this year and knock them out of the playoffs then Bama does not continue to look so much the lock to get a Natty ring and players will start looking elsewhere. Bama class already dropped to #7 last year and Kirby is kicking Sabans arse at recruiting GA. Bama does not get the lions share of their players from Alabama. They get a lot from GA, Fla, LA, and Miss... If these other teams keep chipping away at Bama's recruiting base then tdecline is real. This is what put Philip Fulmer out of business at UT when Saban went to LSU, Spurrier and Meyer at UF, and Richt at UGA.

He was hired to bring top talent to LSU. He is known to be a great recruiter and if he can’t get top 5 classes then what good is he?

Stupid post of the year award. Trust me, if Oeaux wins a national championship at LSU, there will be overwhelming support.
You are a moron, quite frankly.

there is and never has been any such reality as "locking down the state of Louisiana". nor any other state for that matter. I think many Louisiana kids are more loyal to the state than other states but many are cool with going elsewhere and ALWAYS have been. the best LSU can do is get most kids to stay in the boot.

That man (Kirby Smart) got HAMMERED by Auburn in the regular season and was Saban's bitch in the NC game.
He should be treated the same way as you nitwits treated Les Miles when LSU won the regular season against Bama and lost in the NC game. It is almost the same scenario. Bama didnt win the West or the SEC but got a do-over and won.
Miles was beat up continualy for losing that game so don't go building up Kirby Smart now. Oh, here is another one for you, "Kirby Smart is winning with Mark Richt talent".

the only revisionist history would be if someone believed the bullshite you just typed.
Eaux was hired at LSU as D-line coach in January of 2015. The 2015 signing day as always was on the 1st Wednesday in February. How much significant input does a DL coach get in 2 1/2 to 3 weeks?
Eaux was given the title of recruiting coordinator in January 2016 when Frank Wilson went to UTSA. Again, signing day is the 1st Wednesday in February. He was the RC for maybe 3 weeks. How much significant input does the RC have on players signed? How much significant input does the RC have after 3 whole weeks in that position?
Talk about revisionist history.

Locking down the state is a reference to keeping the home grown high level talents at home. But it's more a reference to thee fact that LSU is the only major conference football participant in the state. Most states have at least 2-3 big schools and many have a but more. When you have a state with no true home town competition to rival that will steal away players like so many others have to deal with as a normal problem, on top of the fact that LSU is in a state that produces the most elite level talent percapita of any state, and beyond that is generally seen as a very good football state for high school, it's always Texas, California, and Florida that are up top but Louisiana is in that next teir down in terms of talent and competition, the fact that all that talent only ever grows up seeing one big time school run the show in terms of the talents of the state and most grow up literally dreaming of one day playing at LSU where in Louisiana for the most part is where you are always pushed to go anyway.
When Jerry Dinardo got Kevin Faulk to come to LSU it signaled a new era of LSU football. The best players who had not even begun to think about LSU were all now taking a look. Nick sabans made it a monster and pulled in some serious classes. Won a title...handed it off and Les miles kept it going. Won another title. For the most part over the last 15 years like half of the top 15-20 la kids come to LSU. Some big misses. Joe McKnight. Probably won't ever get over goddamn Landon Collins. But we've pulled some dudes in. We missed on Collins but got Jamal Adams. We missed on this kid but got that one. It'll keep going as long as LSU remains the only major conference football school in the state. Yeh lately the north la schools have been not near as automatic and even words like boycott were thrown around. But we've gotten plenty of those kkids from around there too. As long as LSU has no state competition they won't falter....
