Bleacher Report Write Up
This answers a lot of the typical questions about a small school guy. Dude has just recently filled out physically, his measurables are as good as any top pass rush ends on draft day, he's humble, inquisitive and had a great Senior Bowl.
It was expensive, but the sticker shock can easily fade away into the past if this guy lives up to the potential he has athletically. He looks like he could amazing

The more I watch this guy, the more I like him.
I know he plays against small school guys but he blows up O lineman every single play.
The kid needs to work on disengaging but he has a violent punch.

He needs to refine his pass rushing tools, but thatll come in time.

As it’s been said repeatedly, there is a ton of unknowns with every prospect. It’s hard for me to not like this pick though. Davenport is a physical freak with a great punch, speed, and has an incredible reach to keep lineman off of him. IF he puts it all together he has the chance to be a game changer for us. I’m excited to see how he turns out. Coaching will have a lot to do with it. I look at a guy like Danielle Hunter (yes LSU homer I know) where he mentioned that his Viking coach said something to the effect of “with that speed why are you running 20 yards in a circle to get to the quarterback? Run in a straight line.” Sometimes simple things change the player dramatically.
Here’s to hoping we found a stud DE to put opposite of Cam Jordan.

I get the logic of people criticizing the pick because he is a "small school guy". However, what needs to be taken into consideration is thing: He is bulldozing over guys that are all of 6-4 300+ pounds. That's still impressive from a football standpoint to do that. I'm with most of you that think once he gets into camp and gets some better coaching he will be a good player. The meaning good could be anywhere from a solid starter to house-hold name HOF caliber player. Only time and patience will tell.

I honestly liked the pick at 14, and just questioned the capital that was given up to get there. In all honesty though, I can see now why the Saints did it and are happier today with their decision probably than even last night.
Reading about this kid is quite an uplifting story. Humbleness is something that is often seen as a weakness in today's society and especially in certain cultures, but it is something that should be lauded not criticized.
This kid does what it takes to make himself better and seems extremely coachable. That is the key with these project guys. They have all the potential in the world, but need to be receptive to coaching and willing to put in the work.
When things didn't go his way, he adjusted his approach and moved forward at the Senior Bowl. That shows a ton of what you want to see out of these guys.
I think Evans and Colston were similar types of projects. Underappreciated guys that were mild-mannered and that made people underestimate them. The only difference is they were picked in later rounds. I honestly think that if people knew what they did after their rookie seasons, both of those guys would've been first rounders too.

NFL teams like to try to throw prospects off their games with weird questions during combine interviews. One team asked Davenport what kind of fruit he would like to be
I would have straight up told them this is a stupid question and I refuse to dignify it by picking what fruit I would want to be.

He celebrates that nationally televised all-star game touchdown by walking calmly out of the end zone and accepting a few slaps on the helmet from teammates along the way.
Class. He's the exact opposite of the shite we jettisoned a couple of year's ago. We need more of this in the NFL

One other thing is that the Saints have taken 14 smaller school (non-FBS) kids since 2006. 8 of those have been major components on this team, a few have been busts, and a few have been contributors:
Hits:
Colston*
Evans*
Bushrod*
Morestead*
Hicks
White
Armstead*
Onyemata
Hendricks
5/14 * were great gets and/or solid for their position.
That's a pretty good hit rate on these guys and these are just the draft picks.

This kid is still growing!
With a pro S&C program, and a professional dietician, this kid could be 285 lbs in a couple of years without losing his burst or a step.
He could put Matty on ice, slam Cam, and tear the crab legs off of Winston very soon.
I like the pick.
