Okay, this is for the older crowd. Can you remember what was the first vinyl record that you ever owned? Was it a 45 or 33 & 1/3?
Mine was a 45rpm and it was Lollipops & Roses by Paul Peterson. The records were 3 for $1 at the time I bought it. Not so sure but I think another one of the 3 was Big Bad John by Jimmy Dean.
Years later I joined Columbia House record club and got 12 albums of my choice for $1.

First album was Alice Cooper Schools Out
Don’t recall what the first 45 was that I bought but I had a lot.
I recall one of the 78s we had was Popeye singing Never Play With Matches

First record I purchased with my own money was Michael Jackson Thriller. I had tapes before that, but that was my first album.

For me it was definitely 45's. I don't remember the very first one I owned. I do remember when I was about 6 or 7 being at my uncle's house and his kids, who were older than me, had a collection of Beatles records. They had all of their early hits like I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Twist and Shout, etc. They'd load up a big stack of them on the record player and we'd listen for what seemed like hours but was really probably 20 minutes.
When I got a little bit older I got a record player of my own. I remember I'm Your Captain by Grand Funk, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Let It Be and Hey Jude.
Eventually I got an 8-track that served me pretty well until college when I got an actual stereo.

I think I still have my 45s. One I remember has Fox On The Run on one side and Ballroom Blitz on the other.

First was a 45 of Calling Dr. Love. Then I begged my mom for a copy of Destroyer to catch up on the back catalog.

Worked part time at Winn Dixie during high school, got my first tax refund (1974) and bought a stereo (Marantz receiver, Altec speakers, Thorens turntable) . First albums I bought, at Leisure Landing, Yes - Fragile, Steely Dan - Pretzel Logic, Robin Trower - Bridge of Sighs. Before that I had an 8-track player in my car.

First LP owned Sing Along With The Busy Beavers, then Herb Alpert & TJB "Goin' Places". First LP I bought was Rubber Soul. Still have all 3 of them.
Early 45's included early Beatles, early Stones, and The Greek Fountains (From BR, included Cyril Vetter). I don't have them any more.

I think my parents bought us a little Mickey mouse record player. So probably 45s. First one I "owned" was Street Survivors that my mom bought at a yard sale. This was like 1996 and I had no way to play it, but I still thought it was cool. I still own it, and it is now part of a sizeable collection. I guess I have my mom to thank for my vinyl addiction

Was lucky to get exposed to a lot of different music by my older siblings. My brother was 10 years older and listened to early 60’s stuff: Animals, Gary Puckett, Righteous Brothers. My oldest sister, 6 years older, was into mid-late 60’s classic rock. She joined Columbia record club- could get 12 albums for almost free- and she let me pick one. I got Are You Experienced and wore it out. First album I bought with my own money was Elton John( got it at GEX on Veteran’s in Metairie)- kind of a precursor to Sam’s Club
