I'm honestly in awe...
I feel kind of bad I didn't include how any loses would be on Aranda because it's his job to keep the other team from scoring.
btw, there was a /s at the end. (as evidenced by all the O's being zeros)

It’s been discussed. O sucks.
And there it is.
If for some crazy reason O has a great season, I can see all of you O haters saying "yeah but there's no way he can back it up with another great season because he sucks".

Honestly...doesn't this say it all?

The "O hater" comment baffles me so much. It vexes me. I'm terribly vexed. Why wouldn't all LSU fans absolutely LOVE for a Cajun to be a successful LSU head coach? That doesn't even compute to me.

It would be totally rational to question O for one more season with a successful season in 2018. He has never proven sustained success, so it's perfectly fine to question whether or not he could keep it going, especially if we have some coaching losses - Aranda mostly. Fluke's can and do happen, but it would be important to at least give credit where credit is due, at the same time.
Because one great season should also not equal a 7 year extension or some such nonsense that O fans will be campaigning for. There are extremes on both sides.

I can’t wait til O fricks up this year and the fan base tees off on this fricker. Dude is going to lose his shite. Hopefully it happens on his call in show. Maybe he’ll rip his shirt off and beat the frick out of someone in the live audience.

This is all some of you have to hang on to, fantasies.
You just fantasize how funny it'd be if O turned out to be great and we were wrong.
Just put your name to it if you believe in him and you think he's going to have a great season. Otherwise these fantasies are pointless and best left in your head.
I find it telling that even his strongest proponents won't predict for him to have a great season.

Fluke? No way can next season be a fluke with that schedule. And when Aranda leaves, we hire another really good DC. Doesn't sustained success apply to almost every coach at every fan base in the world?

With the exception of a handful, no one will be clamoring for a long extension. You're being really dramatic, and wrong.

Well yeah. The "quality" of next season will totally depend on who we win against, who we lose against, how it happens, and what it looks like in the end. A win against Miami looks good in week 1....might not look so good if Miami ends up 4-8.
I mean if you mean "great" season to be 1 loss or undefeated, I don't think anyone would argue. But If a "great" season will mean some sort of 2 or 3 loss season, then it will really depend on what that looks like.

It isn't that easy.

Yes, but most head coaching candidates have a history of some sort of sustained success on their resume. When you hire a coach who lead some second tier team to multiple winning season over time, then yes, when he goes 11-2 at LSU, people should be excited for the second season. There's a lot of evidence to say he continues, he's proven it before.
When you hire a head coach with an overall losing record and no evidence of consistency, then questioning his consistency after one season is 100% fair.

With the exception of a handful, most people will come around cautiously with a "great" season.

I'm not wrong. Some will always be O supporters and call for an extension with a 6 win season. Some will always be O haters and never be happy even if O is undefeated. Most of us are all in the messy middle somewhere. That's all I mean - hence there are some extremes on both sides.

LSU looked pretty damn good to me on offense when Etling and SE took over year before last. Did they not?
Here are the defensive rankings of the teams that LSU played after the coaching change.
Missouri: #112 rushing defense - #116 overall
Southern Miss" #41 rushing defense - #14 overall
Ole Miss: #119 rushing defense - #108 overall
Alabama: #1 rushing defense - #2 overall
Arkansas: #93 rushing defense - #74 overall
Florida: #35 rushing defense - #6 overall
Texas A&M: #74 rushing defense - #89 overall
Louisville: # 9 in both rushing and overall rankings
They crushed those defenses that were in the bottom 2/3 of the defensive rankings. They played a good Louisville defense but Louisville entered the bowl game on a 2 game losing streak where they gave up 36 points to Houston and 41 points to Kentucky. So it was a good win, but the Louisville defense was definitely struggling when the bowl game was played.
Southern Mississippi had a good defense ranking but if you were to look at their schedule, it's no wonder they were that high.
The two losses were at the hands of two very good defenses, #2 and #6 but only scored 10 points combined in those losses.
So that's what 2016 looks like. Hopefully we get to play 9 or 10 teams this coming season that will be ranked towards the bottom of the barrel defensively.
We comin'

I think This season was a huge knock on the CEO Model of coaching.
Canada showed how easy it is for even a slam dunk hire on paper to go wrong.
And now we are paying Aranda 2.5 million dollars because we know how much we need him to make up for O. That raise should come out of Os salary.
So before saying it would be easy to replace or DC, maybe we should see how we’ve done with our second OC hire in 2 years.

I concur. We cannot have the type losses we had last season to lesser teams. And O royally screwed up hiring Canada and he has double talked about the offensive style since day 1 of getting the job.
If the offense doesn't click this season than O should be out. Brennan should have been our QB last season. We pay our DC more than anyone pays a DC, so when he leaves, it'll mean hopefully hiring the best one out of the many to choose from.
I despised Les Miles being our HC and I didn't want Herman or Jimbo....O is fine by me until he proves he can't do it.
Posted on 4/18/18 at 3:30 pm to Four Leaf Tayback
Good to know he's already warming up the "we have a new offense" excuse everyone knew he'd resort to.

Oh can’t really do anything besides recruit DL.
It’s like his one akill. Otherwise he leans way too heavily on others. Not a model I see Working in the long run. Also hisnin game decisions have been super questionable.
Going for it on 4th down in our territory vs Troy. Not going for it vs ND with 2 minutes left. Switching Kickers as many times as he did.
I think Ensminger may even work out, but it’s a huge risk and sorta just a crazy idea to hire a guy to run an offense he has never coached much less run.

There's nothing wrong with leaning on others.
Football is a team game from staff to players.
As long as O improves with his recruiting and makes competent good hires as assistants he'll Ben just fine.

Unfortunately for LSU, O's track record is replete with failure on both of those aspects.

There isn’t anything wrong with leaning. But he does it too much he doesn’t support his own weight.

So what does O bring to the table that a million other coaches don’? He isn’t the best recruiting HC out there.

t O fans
that's a rant myth. No such thing. However there are many 'LSU FANS' who want to see him be given a chance because if he succeeds then LSU succeeds and vice versa. Some LSU fans don't spin a negative light around everything he does and give credit where credit is due and where there is not, they want to see improvement. Just as they would do with any LSU coach. Same as Miles, as Sabin, as Dinardo, etc.
