Anyone have one of these classic old shotguns? Opinions?
Looking into getting one.

my brother has my grandmother's from way back. Its always been taken care of and shoots great. It's heavier than your modern guns, and longer, but nice to shoot.

I grew up shooting two old Model 12's. Beware the slam fire. Otherwise, good old shotguns.

I have one in 16ga. My rabbit gun. Love that thing.
It was my grandpa's. No telling how old it is.

Yes. I have one (20ga.) from the late 50's that was given to me by my late uncle. Use it now mainly for dove hunting.

I have a model 1200. Not nearly the same thing but still smooth as silk.

We had a couple in the family, but they were stolen about 35 years ago.
I have my grandparents Model 25. It is a nice gun, and a squirrel killing machine.

I sold my deceased Dad's Model 12 in 16 gauge in a stupid moment way back. Wish I could have it back.

I learned early never sell a gun. Especially one that is gifted to you in some way

Pawpaw has a model 1200 and everyone in the family had it at some point in time. It was all I used before I got my 870 at 13 years old. Think he paid $50 for it and it wasn't the top of the line, but it has held up quite well for its age. Probably his most used shotgun these days actually.

They are so smooth you can hold it with the nuzzle up, hold the release button and the action will just slide open.

Absolutely love em! I’ve got two 12s and a 16. I’d love to have 50 more. Plus I’ve got several receivers, stocks, and a bucket full of parts. One day I’ll get around to engraving one of the 12’s and the 16. Other 12 was paw paws and I’ll let it stay exactly how I received it. I’ve got a sweet spot for all pre 64 Winchesters. Got a pre 64 model 94 that looks like it hasn’t had a box of rounds run through it. I’ll end end getting a model 42 one of theses days.

I have a nickel steel 16 ga model 12 with a 26in full choke. My Grandfather bought it from an old Black man for $10 and a wagon load of corn during the Depression. The old timers told me when I was a kid that Grandpa could kill 6 quail on a covey rise out of 7 shots with it. On my first duck hunt on the very first shot at a duck, I killed two Grey ducks on the fly with it. That one shot has cost me thousands of dollars in the last 52 years.

Yes, I stopped in a gun shop in Vernon, Tx around 10 years ago to buy my licences on the way to Dalhart for a goose hunt. Dealer had a Model 12 Heavy Duck model in 3in with a solid matte rib. Got him down to $275 and dumbass that I am, did not buy.

I have two Winchester model twelves - a 12 ga. and a 20 ga. Both in excellent shape and both are safe queens. Awesome firearms.
