Incoming LSU freshman Chasen Hines changes position

Chasen Hines was one of the most versatile linemen in the 2018 recruiting class.
A one-time 4-star guard, Hines had a change of heart last fall when he decided he wanted to play defensive tackle for LSU. He nearly flipped his commitment in the process. However, the LSU coaching staff’s flexibility with the blue-chip lineman led him to sign with the Tigers last December.

Conversely, Hines saw a deep group of defensive linemen competing against a thin group on the offensive side of the ball. With that in mind, the Texas native made the decision to change his position, again, and work as an interior lineman under first-year offensive line coach James Cregg beginning this summer.
“After watching practice, I realized I had to do what was best for the team,” Hines told SEC Country. “I’m going to be playing center and guard.”

This spring, however, Hines noticed that LSU’s strength was in its defensive line. Projected starters include juniors Rashard Lawrence, Breiden Fehoko and Ed Alexander, followed by redshirt sophomore Glen Logan, Tyler Shelvin and sophomores Neil Farrell and Justin Thomas. Additionally, freshman Davin Cotton recently began practicing with the team and will welcome Dare Rosenthal, Nelson Jenkins and Dominic Livingston to campus in two months.
Glad he is moving back to offense. Chasen was rated higher (5-star) by a couple services as an O-lineman.

That’s good news, I always felt the staff was kinda telling him what he wanted to hear in order to get him on campus. Once here, I thought they might convince him to play his more natural position ala Devin White.
It just didnt make sense for him to play DL when we had so many DL already in the class.
I figured either he or Rosenthal would have to switch to OL.

Smart move. He will among the long line of interior maulers we’ve developed recently. He’s going to be a good one.

That is great news to hear. He'll have a better much longer career as an OLineman.

Now lets get Dare Rosenthal to switch please he has alot of potential at either tackle spot

That's how you get them to change their minds, let them make up their own minds. Lol It always works, they start practicing and see for themselves how much easier it would be for them to switch over. The other side is not so bad they start thinking, and really looks easier, all I have to do is just block. Next thing you know, they are making the switch themselves.

If he came to spring practice it probably didn't take long for him to realize his quickest path to the field is probably on the oline.

Gonna be a Trai Turner clone. Kind of a shorter guard with great feet that will pull on running plays and knock some heads

Man, I am torn on Dare. He was a 5-star O-lineman before switching to defense and being dropped to a 3-star and eventually working his way to a 4-star.
BUT, the guy is just so fast for a 6'7" 325 pound human. He can make a lot of money in the NFL on either side.

This was our top rated DT
But a beast player is a beast player.
Still. Weaker DL class than we probably needed.

Looks like it. Here is another article with a video of him at one of LSU's camps.
"Hines said offensive line is more his natural strength and that switching to that side of the ball could give him a chance to come in and help the team earlier."
"Tigers coaches got to watch him work at both guard and center last summer at their prospect camp. There Hines was essentially a brick wall, winning reps against some of the best defensive linemen to attend the camp."

Man your dead wrong on this situation, this is a GREAT development. We Already have Livingston coming in at NG along with Cotton, Rosenthal, and Jenkins...that's 4 players for 3 possible positions...on the O line we had 2 jucos and only 2 TFs for 5 positions, being an EE he will at least give more depth/competition to the O Line this year and probably will end up in the 2 deep and will start next year....Great news
