I know that our society has this old fashioned notion that we shouldn't beat up old people and humiliate them, but, what good is an old fashioned notion like that when somebody's in-law needs a humiliating beat-down?
Huh? What good is it?

Then it’s tome to sit them down and reason with them.
“Y’all know how when Gmaw is around she tells you that you don’t have to do what I say? Well that’s BS. You will always do what I say or when gmaw is gone, you are punished. Also, if she tells you not to listen to me, and you tell her that I am your Daddy and make the rules, I’ll give you $10. Deal?”
That’ll get her to back the frick off.

Their can only be one alpha. The correct response is to quietly slide your belt off while maintaining eye contact with everyone in the room. Ask who wants to go first. If the wife starts to speak, ask if she wants in on this. When everyone turns red and looks at the floor say" That's what I thought!". Get up, unzip and piss on their naugahide sofa and walk out.

when my oldest was a tween he begged for and wanted a weight set. I always said negative because of his immaturity and age. My EX MIL bought him one behind my back while I was working and delivered it to my basement while I was @ work.

My father 8n law tried that one time. We came to a very clear understanding of whom the father was.

As a grandpaw, I had never did what some of y'all are posting, nor my wife. Rules are rules set by their Mom's and Dad's.

Keep in mind, your parents or in-laws are not your enemy. They love their grandchildren and you/your spouse.
You might be frustrated with this right now, but you'll be a grandparent one day as well. And you can say "I won't be like that" but chances are you will.
You know what a blessing children are to you as a parent, but they are equally a blessing, in some cases larger, to a grand parent.
Another thing, grandparents realize they are on the other side of life and they relish their time left with grands.
I grew up poor. Very poor. I can rant on what we didn't have but what we did have were two equally poor grandmothers who would have died for us and tried to do what they could for us. We mainly helped them. But they would beat our arse as badly as our parents if we screwed up yet defend us as well.
My daughter is constantly on my butt for overdoing it with my grands. But I try to give them things I never had. I don't want them getting made fun of at school for wearing "poor people" clothing.
I want them to have a nice bike, nice things and try to relieve the financial burden on my children and their spouses that it would take to do these things.
Don't be an arse, you'll later regret it.

Buying them nice things and telling them they don't have to do something that mom or dad just told them to do is two different things, Gramps. One is spoiling them, which a grandparent should do. the other is undermining their parental authority.

You totally missed the point of his post

This is why when you become an adult you must stop taking gifts and money from your parents and in laws.
My grandparents bailed out my aunt from credit card debt a few years back. When my grandpa handed my aunt's husband the check he told him to destroy his credit cards. The husband just looked at him angrily and said nothing. Fast forward to now and they are in even a worse hole than they were before.
Point is, if you're still sucking from the teat then you lose the right to tell that person to frick off.
