It drives me insane to see major college basketball players missing free throws.

I believe the advance stats have shown that being a good FT shooting team isn’t that much of an advantage over an average FT shooting team

Making FTs doesn’t get you on highlight shows growing up

I don't understand why any college or pro isn't at least at 75%. It's insane not to be.

The same reason the Pelican can't. Whatever reason that is.

It should bother you more that NBA players can't. They get paid millions to play basketball, and have nothing else to do with their time besides play basketball and live their life. Plenty of time to work on that. Yet there are a lot who suck at it.

Good news is that FT% is on the rise. Three teams shot over 80% this year, the most of any year since 97-98 (when I started looking).

I went back to the 97-98 season and this is the average FT% of all D1 teams by year:

97-98 - 67.45%
98-99 - 67.78%
99-00 - 68.12%
00-01 - 68.52%
01-02 - 68.97%
02-03 - 69.39%
03-04 - 68.77%
04-05 - 68.64%
05-06 - 69.20%
06-07 - 69.02%
07-08 - 69.05%
08-09 - 68.81%
09-10 - 68.81%
10-11 - 69.20%
11-12 - 69.05%
12-13 - 69.29%
13-14 - 69.85%
14-15 - 69.25%
15-16 - 69.89%
16-17 - 70.36%
17-18 - 71.37%

ETA: yes, I'm a little bored this morning

ETA2: updated back to 97-98 which is as far back as this source goes LINK

Its not celebrated.

If much were made of it then kids would learn.

Back in my day, all the players were great at FTs.

Now nobody can hit em.

This thread is a bar full of the old guys who watch a couple games come tournament time and start yapping like they're students of the game.
