Was told that he was a shitty fielder: 0 errors so far playing 2 positions

was told he was too slow to score runs: 8 runs so far in 10 starts, including 4 this past weekend in 2 starts.

has been on base 24 times in 10 starts. he has an OBP of .522 That is an incredible number. Being on base puts pressure on the other pitcher, and of course you can't score runs if you cant get on base.

He's not a bad fielder, he just has very limited range. That wouldn't show up in a box score.

no one said he was too slow to score runs, but he is slow. I'm sure Chris Reid would say the same thing.

he's always had a great OBP and no one has ever said any different.

The issue with Reid is he has a very low ceiling. Slaughter has a very high ceiling so of course Mainieri wanted Slauighter to figure it out. He gave Slaughter the chance but he wasn't getting it done, so Reid is a fantastic safe option to have to bring in.

All that time spent running with you attached to his dick must have made him faster.

Reid could’ve been given an error the other night, he was just too slow to get in position

Reid does what he does, well. He’s not a plus infielder but he’s doing fine so far. He doesn’t hit for power, I think I heard every hit he has this season has been a single. But he gets on base. He isn’t overly fast, he knows that, we know that, everyone knows that.

He’s a solid player who is very useful to have when you need a guy to plug in.

I've been seeing him out at Tigerland after games so he rakes and he parties. A true Tiger.

If Billy Beane was a college GM he would love a player like Chris Reid. Gets on base and would be cheap on the open market (scholarship needed) because he has a lot of “flaws” and doesn’t pass the eye test. Slaughter looks the part and it’s pretty in batting practice but it has not yet translated to games.

I agree. I am happy to see him get playing time, because he has been more clutch than other players that got the nod ahead of him. All along, he kept a good attitude and was a team player.

Good job, Chris!

Chris Reid is slow, has no power, and gets made fun of by his head coach for being slow and having no power.

Chris Reid is a good utility player. He gets on base which is awesome and doesn't make a lot of errors. Although, I do seem to remember one error over the weekend that cost us two runs, no? It is true though, he does not have a lot. That doesn't tell the whole story though. He stays within his athletic ability which makes the stats look good. He is not the type that will make a highlight reel with an amazing snag, and throw to first on a line drive. Slaughter is IMHO an elite infielder, and makes highlight reel type snags regularly. He should be at third. He can change the outcome of a game with one swing. Reid cannot.

Lester, I’m with you. He’s a better college baseball player than Jake Slaughter.

Some stats:
-player-- AB BB SO H R RBI OB%
-Saughter 52 6 11 11 7 8 .317
-Cabrera 56 12 12 15 9 11 .400
-N Webre. 41 4 8 12 8 3 .340
-C. Reid 32 13 5 11 8 6 .522
Slaughter job is RHed pinch hitter
Other than homers (2) he has not done much and he fails to reach base often

I don't know why there's certain baseball players every season that rustle the shite out of people when they become good. People form uneducated opinions on them and can't admit they're wrong. I've always liked and pulled for Chris Reid. It's a shame the best fans in college baseball can't be happy when someone improves.
