This is my number 1 fear.

Even though its given to you, you will always be remembered as the guy who left for 8 weeks due to an honestly female related situation.

I'd bet there are less than a thousand people in the United States who are truly not expendable.

Everyone can be replaced for the most part the whole don't show them you are replaceable thing doesn't really hold water.

- I imagine you aren't going to just peace out one Friday and show up 8 weeks later on Monday without any contact. It shouldn't be that difficult to keep up with what is going, go to meetings or stagger it.

- And if you are afraid they are going to fire you then you probably already know you are underperforming. Hiring and training an employee to full speed will cost them a lot more than 8 weeks of vacation for a job which requires some sort of special skillset

As long as you are taking leave covered under FMLA, then you would have a slam dunk wrongful termination case against them.
