Ford likely to discontinue full sized Lincoln Continental/Ford Taurus production

The Ford Taurus and Lincoln Continental will likely not be produced after the current model run.
They are doing this to focus on crossover SUVs. So if you want a full sized Ford sedan, you may only have a couple of years left to get one.

In the 18 months since it became available to purchase, Lincoln managed to sell 18,846 units in this part of the world. And that’s not enough to justify the costs that went into the Continental, which are estimated in the ballpark of $1 billion (!!!).
What happens next, you ask? The answer comes from “sources intricately familiar with Ford Motor Company’s future product plans,” and it all boils down to eternal rest. Ford Authority reports “the Lincoln Continental will be discontinued after production of the current, tenth-generation model comes to an end.”

The Lincoln will come back in 10 or 15 years when big cars become chic again.
The Taurus can die a happy death and never return.

Are they giving up on the full size car market altogether?

The Taurus is a shockingly bad car design.
The Continental was a little better, with a much more updated interior and styling.

That appears to be the case. Even the mid sized Ford Fusion redesign has been mothballed.
More women are making the buying decisions for cars these days, and they want crossovers.

I’d like to get in a shot that the Navigator was one big piece of shite.
I still see many out there slumped down with the failed airbags.

I drove a fusion as a rental. I really liked it.
Everyone wants SUVs now. Just give it time when gas starts to come back up and then cars will be back in style.

fricking Millenials. Rather drive a shitty Prius than a real American luxury car that's been around forever

What will Matthew Mcconaughey do, or does he drive a different Lincoln?

I think higher end sedans will have to be performance/enthusiasts oriented to sell. Hard to do that will a full sized front drive chassis.

That's a shame because the new Continental is baller. IWDI

Wasn't always so. I learned to drive a stick on the '89 Taurus SHO. This thing was unsuspectingly powerful with DOHCs and a Yamaha engine. YAMAHA. Had this for 13 years, and was a fun car to drive.

Huh? It's the same as the expedition.

They need to revive this thing of beauty.

Is that the thing where they have the collapsed front suspension? Almost ever Navigator I've seen must have had that same broken part.
