awesome thanks. I think I need to call the number to get more info but that's a big help.

yeah if you found a good bnb downtown, with the shuttle locations, you should be good to go

Near Spanish Town Rd and Seventh St.
What would be the closest gameday bus pickup location to there?

Lafayette Street at Main Street (Hampton Inn & Suites)
Within easy walking distance
That area is all State Government Buildings, Captial One Building, Main St Market. Literally a 5 min walk. All a good safe area.

I'll be with my wife and the "wait it out at a college bar" option probably won't work (dammit..)
Go to Chimes or Walk Ons after the game while traffic dies down. Both are walking distance from the stadium and Walk Ons always has live music after the game.
ETA: both places are probably worth going to at some point regardless during your trip. Chimes is probably my favorite restaurant in Baton Rouge. It's got great local food and an awesome beer selection. Walk Ons is more of a generic sports bar but it normally has a great atmosphere on LSU gamedays.

Awesome! If I can get thsi bus situation figured out I'll be golden. $10 from teh game back to downtown is hard to beat.

Yeah that's the way to go. worst case that part of Spanish Town Road is maybe 10 min walk to the Hampton Inn.

I concur with Hampton or one of the hotels near 3rd street. Plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. You can take the bus to the game. Personally I'd rather stay here than Spanish Town even if it costs a little more

Follow up question: if I dont' end up doing the spanish town/downtown/bus thing for whatever reason adn get one of the ones south of campus, what are the best/worst ways going that direction? Waht I mean is, I have to go SE like everybody else but it looks like Hwy 30, Burbank Drive, and Highland rd are the 3 main avenues to get out. Is one worse than the others? I konw they'll all be bad but are there any that are "less bad"? Any to be avoided at all costs?

It really blows my mind that two of the shittiest areas of BR are right next to the state's flagship university & the main college night life area.

There really isn't one that is a whole lot worse than the other, with contraflow or just whatever the hell the cops feel like doing on a particular day. You can weave around and jump on the interstate, outside of what you already named at Darlymple,Lee/College Dr, and Acadian Thruway ..hop on I-10 and head East

I always Uber onto campus around noon to 1pm. Never have to big of a problem from where I live by UClub.
After the game you’re not getting anywheres quick. They have plenty of places to grab a drink by the northgates. Wait out the traffic alongside the surge charge and you’ll be fine.

I agree with the wait it out crowd. If college bars are a no, then go to Chimes near campus which is a restaurant with a full bar or find somewhere else nearby.
If you're already going to have to wait for an uber and then in an uber in traffic, you might as well get some food a drink while it dies down.

Where can I find more info about the bus from downtown to campus and back? Seems like an intriguing option.
LINK
This is for last season, but as long as they've been doing it I believe these have been the pickup spots. All of them are within easy walking distance from pretty much anyplace you could stay downtown. You don't need to buy tickets ahead of time, just show up and pay for a ticket at whichever stop you go to. They run 3hrs before the game until 1hr after. You could always buy a ticket and Uber to campus if you want to tailgate earlier and then ride the bus back downtown after the game. It shouldn't be expensive going to the stadium on Uber, just leaving.

I'm gonna be so gd trashed that day so yes I will undoubtedly be pounding, I've love to get together with folks if that's feasible as well.
My last trip to BR in '08 we set up our own tailgate and hung out during the morning, then the later half of the day we just walked around mingling with people. Lemme tell you that was probably one of my favorite away game experiences. This older LSU coupld had some old converted van they were showing other games on, they practically force fed us jamabalaya to uncomfortable levels of fullness, and of course gave us whatever drinks we wanted to boot. It was awesome. Completely opposite from my trip in 03 but that's another story.
But to answer the question...yes I'm alwasy down to hang out with other posters and drink a few cold ones.

Nah, at this point in life I'm done driving if it's over about ~6 hours. I've flown and driven to New Orleans a handful of times, and to me it's a no brainer to fly. Just personal preference.
Has no posters offered to scoop yall up and bring yall back?
We'll get you to game and back for a 6 pack of bud light. We live by Kenilworth(4 miles from Stadium) and have a game day routine that minimizes traffic to and from the game and gets us free parking exactly 1/2 mile from our tailgate on the Parade Ground. Holler if yall do get something south of campus.

It's because those areas were huge labor pools for LSU from the time campus moved from downtown in 1925. From custodians to cafeteria workers, Lower middle class employees who walked to work around Campus benefited from living so close.
Then It (d)evolved into your typical 'hood' by the 80s. More ya know.
