Goodfellas was the better movie
I like the real life story of Casino better. The movie wasnt very far from the book.

Goodfellas is the obvious answer, however I really like both and will watch anytime either is on TV. Unedited of course.

Personally, I think Goodfellas is the better movie, but Pesci's character in Casino is better than in Goodfellas.

I respect Goodfellas more... but I have to go with Casino on which one I like more. Blasphemous, I know, but I really loved it. Sharon Stone was awful, but so was Lorraine Bracco. 2 great men’s movies, but with awful women in both of them.

Goodfellas is better but both are very good. But I'll say of the 2, Goodfellas had an awful last 20 minutes or so. Everything was smoothly written and shot and then there is this almost rush to end it. Almost like they were out of catered food and said frick it, edit away.

i agree.
one of my best friends in HS had an uncle that was on the tac team that took down lefty rosenthal (rob de niro's character). they had 8 x 10 movie posters and newspaper artivles all throughout their house . they had a pet german shepherd that they named "FBI".

Pesci is totally the alpha.
De Niro seems neutered.
Stone is the biggest c*nt of all time.
But that's why it's not nearly as good as Goodfellas. There's really little balance.
I mean the famous scene of Pesci "you wouldn't exist out here if it wasn't for me!" Sort of tells the story of the film. And then he bangs Stone. And lets her sorry arse cry on his shoulder.

agree. his character in Casino was spot on. after reading casino and his other book, he really nailed the Ant.

Almost too close to call. Goodfellas wins for me, but not the landslide it is for most. Casino has such compelling acting. Marty did his usual thing, but there were more set pieces, more contemplation - it's a higher level, behind the curtain kind of look at the upper echelons of organized crime. Goodfellas was street level guys doing street level shite.
Both movies had Deniro and Pesci, doing some of their best work. Both had great music. Both had great acting. The edge goes to things like the helicopter chase scene in Goodfellas, the long tracking shot into the restaurant, the "I'm funny to you?", how well done the "Jimmy kills everybody" montage - those sort of little things make Goodfellas a true work of art, while Casino is just another great mafia movie.

GoodFellas is the better movie but Casino is closer to Pileggi's book than GoodFellas is.
