It’s on AMC right now.
Why do I find myself watching this for the 100000th time every time it’s on?
The scenes and interaction between Quint, Brody, and Hooper (specifically Hooper and Quint) blow the chase of the shark out of the water. The acting is absolutely off the charts and Spielberg knows that less is more when it comes to the shark. An idea that a lot of directors since have tried to emulate.
We all know the production legends and Quint’s story of the USS Indianapolis but something draws me to this movie everytime. Although the special effects of “Bruce” haven’t aged amazingly, where does this rank in all time Spielberg’s collection? Top 10? Top 5?

Jaws is the Aquaman of villains.
Just stay out of the water. Problem solved.

it is easily ss's best film ... it's not built around some great historical event/person (yes, it's partially based on actual events) or something 'heartwarming' like ET, and the shark appears on screen for maybe 2 total minutes of the film ... every scene is impeccable ... the first attack ... the 2nd attack when the boy is killed, with the way brodie sees it ... the scene in the courthouse when we're introduced to quint, revealing his belief/awareness of the seriousness of the situation ... when brodie is slapped - "no she's not" ... everything on the boat ... the adversarial relationship of quint and hooper turning to respect via the story of the uss indianapolis ... quint's ahab ... if you are old enough to have seen it when it came out or remember how everyone felt about the ocean when it came out, you understand how enormous its influence was on the country and films after the fact ...

And what's funny is he was a novice and nearly fired 3 times during the filming.
There's some doc on Youtube about the making of Jaws and it was a disaster. He was way overbudget and insisted on filming in open water instead of studio made pool.
Dreyfuss said that every morning, he wasn't sure if he'd still have a job...show up to the set and the movie is cancelled.
(and apparently Benchley who wrote the book couldn't write a screenplay to save his life and they brought in other writers and the script kept changing - while they were filming.)

GOAT
I also love how the comedic relief was so subtle and natural. The chemistry between Brody, Hooper and Quint was fantastic.

Got to watch it on big screen at movie tavern last year.
It’s amazing how well it held up.

Because it’s a borderline perfect movie.

The opening scene is still one of the best, most blood-curdling, scariest scenes ever.
It's worse than Psycho shower because it's all left to the imagination...it's night and you don't even see the shark...all you have is her pleas for help which end quickly.
You can argue it's the best opening in a movie and not just of that genre...it totally sucks the viewer into the movie...because you want to know, what the hell was that?

This. Even if it was halfway on accident.
Plus one of the all-time greatest scores in cinema history.

I have an awful confession. Of all the Great Movies out there, and I've watched a lot of them, "Jaws" is the one I've never been able to motivate myself to watch. I've probably tried a dozen times over the years and never made it past the FBI warning. I am honestly embarrassed by this because pretty much everyone I've ever spoken to about it agrees that it's a Great Movie and I've never doubted that's true. My problem is that it's marketed as horror and I can't stop thinking -- even as I start the movie with every intention of finally seeing it through this time -- that I'm about to watch a monster movie with a monster that can be defeated by strolling casually up the beach.
Tomorrow, I think, assuming I can convince the wife, I'll try yet again. Wish me luck
