A Baton Rouge grammar school went from possibly losing on a free throw in the final second to winning with an amazing full-court shot as time expired. St. Thomas More eighth-grade student Liam Calkins grabbed a rebound off a missed free throw with 0.6 seconds left and heaved the ball the length of the floor for the winning shot. The first free throw put the other team ahead by one. Celebrating teammates swarmed him against the padded wall behind the basket as his team won by 2 points.

Is it wrong to say I don't think he got it off in time?

This kid is phenomenal. I mean, he did this twice in the same day. Nothing short of a miracle.

Those refs need to be beaten. Didn’t even come close to getting it off in time

In the background of the video you can overhear Sean Miller telling another person "Liam Calkins...whatever it takes. Get Him!"

Nice highlight for STM..even if after the buzzer.

OLOM is a suffocating Anaconda on D in 2018..Beastly Bluejays have no need for such desperation heaves.

I was hoping he was trying to miss, because that form looks like shot a shot put.

I think he did.. But let's say he didn't. You want to be the ref that rules it was too late?

Reminds me of this dipshit:

It appeared to me that he did try to miss the second one after making the first, which statistically is probably the right strategy.

Why is that the right strategy?

But why they had 4 officials that confirmed it

And all 4 blew the call. I’m guessing at least one knew it was wrong but didn’t have the balls to overturn the call

Because there wasn’t enough time to get a rebound and make a full court heave. They were up by 1 so being up by 2 in that situation is no help. It’s a cool shot, of course, but the competitor in me feels bad for the kid who made the first free throw and put up a solid on purpose miss to win the game. Then, all rules went out the window because something cool happens.

“Who cares, it’s a cool memory for the middle school kid”

I think it’d be a cool memory for the other team, too, if the rules were followed. Not a huge deal and refs miss calls. I am 1000000% positive I would have counted it as well because it was fricking sweet
