I have changed out a couple of bulbs in the parking lot. Also had them scan codes to tell me the gasoline cap was bad, so I bought a new one and changed that on site.
never done anything complicated there, though.

AutoZone Baw slammed a $205 battery in my Z71 just the other day. I was grateful, my battery had left me stranded without my tools. Tipped him $20 - he seemed grateful too.

Changed a starter on a 95 f150 in Wall Mart parking lot. Called the wife told her what tools to bring, I walked over to Advance and bought a starter, she was there with my tools when I got back. Had that bitch changed out in less than 15 minutes. No shame at all.
Don't be flippin helpless. I was rolling in about an hour total for less than $50 bucks. A tow and paying somebody to do it would have easily cost $300 not to mention not having my ride for 3 or 4 days.

I had a Chrysler Sebring which was a total piece of shite. When i had to change the battery, imagine my dismay to find out the drivers side wheel had to be removed to get to the battery compartment. I literally looked for that bitch for 15 minutes before I found it. Don't even get me started on the water pump fiasco. frick Chrysler.

Advance Auto Parts is a cheap clone of Autozone. They literrly copied everything AutoZone innovated in the retail DIY parts industry. Fact.

Not necessarily Advance, but I've changed bulbs and batteries in a parts store parking lot. Nothing more serious than that.

Ok I ran stores for AutoZone in the early 90s when they were just getting started (before I moved to the Supply Chain side) and I can tell you I lined up some serious after work tang charging wipers blades and headlights in the parking lot.

I change the battery when needed in parking lot. I don't own tools and they'll let me borrow what I need if I buy battery there

I once replaced an alternator in an Autozone parking lot.
Wife’s went out on i12. Met her and drove to Autozone. Replaced there, she went to work.

damn, that seems like a lot of cash for a battery. have batteries gone up this much?

I was in N.O with a bad alternator and a dead battery. Had ol' autozone baw change my battery. Drove the car home to BR and then replaced out the alternator.

Sure.
Replaced a battery once. Replaced a few wipers, bulbs, and even a thermostat.
My brother replaced his alternator on the lot once.
Why not?

I once replaced my distributor and set the timing in the parking lot. I was out of town, so I really didn't have a choice.
ETA: I shocked myself while setting the timing. I got back to the hotel and couldn't get in my room, because the shock screwed with the magnetic strip on the room key.
