Any predictions on 18.1? We can post scores here instead of cluttering up the other glorious CrossFit thread.
I think 18.1 will be 17.1 because

In.
My first open, and I'm nervous about what's to come.. a common theory seems to be a modified 16.2, based on the picture of a statue.
Then again, it seems like you can never rely on Castro's "hints" to actually mean anything.

I remember that one. It sucked. I got to the 185 squat clean and couldn’t do any. I was gassed and I think my max was 195.
Castro is a troll. I don’t put much into his “hints”.

I'm usually all about it, but this year I haven't signed up... My gym has made some stupid changes in regards to the open, so I'm just not participating.
I'm also 4 weeks into a 10 week bulk and have only done a few metcons in the past 6 weeks... Strength numbers are through the roof though!
I'll do the workouts and log them into wodify, but no open for me.
ETA - 18.1 is 7 minutes of burpees with new standard.

I guess I'm in, if only to measure my improvements

What did they do?
I’d be ok with 7 minutes of burpees.

Is it on TV so I can watch it while I work?
Posted on 2/22/18 at 8:47 am to BigPerm30
The coaches aren't judging anymore. Get your own judge during any class during the day. There will be so much bro-reps, missed standards, and crap like that. It takes a lot of the validity out of the "competition" of it. No one at my gym is going to regionals, but most people wont no rep their friends. It was always a running joke with my gym friends that every wod during the year, I am about number 10, but every year in the open, I'm top 5 in the gym. People don't realize their shitty reps and not everyone counts the same...
This also eliminates the "Friday Night Lights" event that we would have for the open. It was fun to sign up for heats, warm up, watch other people during their heat while waiting for yours.

Open is not on tv. You can go to the website, find your favorite athlete, and they may have their video posted.
Regionals are streamed online and the games are usually on ESPN online.

Who’s certifying the scores? You’re supposed to have someone certify that completed the judges course. I agree that is dumb. Every gym has dudes that don’t no rep themselves or “forget” what rep they’re on. It only hurts them in the open and it is exposes them.

See, i wasn't sure if this is how it's been for previous years or not. At Geaux, the coaches have asked everyone who signs up for the open to also take the Judges course to help judge. I did it, but I immediately realized how bad of an idea that is. Sure, I can answer all of the written questions and get them mostly right, but when it came time to watch videos of people actually performing the exercises and judge them on reps/no reps, I did horribly. I had to retake that portion many times over to pass.
That's not a valid system, imo. You need people with experience coaching and judging to do that properly.
eta
And frankly, I don't want to judge because I know I'm going to frick it up and unfairly hurt or help someone's score.

The owner is an L1 and has taken judges course, so she can certify all the scores. You don't need to be an L1 or have taken judges course to judge someone in the open, unfortunately.
It robs all the validity of it for the average guy like me. I know for the regionals athletes, they have to submit video of their workouts, so its pretty even there, but for people like me, it's pointless without unbiased judges.

I’m thinking the wod is gonna be a version of Fran, something like 21-18-15-12-9-6-3.

I am not being ugly about it, but the previous poster is correct, there is almost no reason to do it and see how you stack up if the performance standards will not be met by some of the participants.
Posted on 2/22/18 at 9:05 am to tigerfoot
No you're absolutely correct. I don't really care about seeing how I stack up against others, just want a frame of reference for the future. But some people do want to know how they stack up, and the current system of "anyone can be a judge for $10" is not good for the sport.

It will be an easy movement/couplet that everyone can do or is easily scaleable.

the only reason I'm going to do it is so I can compare my scores to myself later on
isn't that the purpose for people like "us"?

I have judged before, I warn you ahead of time that I am going to no rep you if needed, and please dont get mad
