I'll try to keep this as concise as possible.

I recently had a family member who received an illegal parking ticket. Said family member was parked at a local grocery store, which had its own private parking lot. The officer who issued the citation also handed out 4 other tickets in the same parking lot at the same time. The officer is known as "Eugene the Ticket Machine." I know that's not relevant, but I believe it helps paint a picture of who is dishing out these tickets. I'm wondering if it's possible for a city police officer to give an illegal parking ticket in this situation? Is he able to write a citation for a vehicle parked on private property? I know that the grocery store has the discretion as to whether or not those vehicles are towed at the owner's expense, but I find it hard to believe that a city officer can issue tickets on private property. Is this something that could successfully be argued in court?

TIA for any help, baws.

Ticket is for illegal parking or trespassing?

Sometimes it may be better to admit you screwed up rather than aggravating a situation you brought on yourself.

Gosh, I'd HATE knowing for the rest of my life that I just rolled over and paid an illegally-issued Parking Ticket from Eugene the Ticket Machine.

That $50 would have kept me alive another decade.

Does it matter if your family member was illegally parked or trespassing?

The ticket is for illegal parking. It happened outside Jackson, MS. The ticket is not $50, it's actually for $203.

I believe they can ticket handicap and fire lane on private property but nothing else.

I could be wrong though.

Tell your husband to pay it, learn to park, and move on.

Paying that parking ticket is a lot cheaper than paying the towing company they could have called.

Seems like something people would say in a cheesy 90's sitcom.

Not likely.

The parking lot is still within their jurisdiction, and the grocery store probably allows police to enforce traffic laws in their parking lot. Plus, even on private property, laws can still be enforced. It comes down to the specific relevant law of the city, county, or state.

203.00 parking ticket in jackson, MS? Just don't pay it. Jackson has much bigger issues at hand than unpaid parking tickets

Dude-- If you are going to park at the Breauxmart, you have to buy some groceries.

I'm curious what was illegal about the parking job? I don't understand what was "illegal" which probably makes a difference.

As someone said, if you park in a handicapped spot in the grocery store parking lot, you can be ticketed, so I'm not sure why you couldn't be ticketed for some other illegal parking situation like parking in a fire zone, for example, or a yellow marked area.
